Stars just waived him. So this is Hollands chance putting his actions where his mouth was (we'll sign an enforcer).
This is a top enforcer guy who can go with everyone, hell he even fought BigMac and got a draw. There won't be a better option option for us in the long run.
We've alreay got 13 forwards locked in, and Emmerton, Brunnstrom and Johnson are all battling for the 14th and final position, and you want us to sign some useless enforcer? Talk about a waste of a roster spot, we all know Detroit doesn't carry dead weight in our line-up which is exactly what he would be.

Grand Rapids needs some toughness and have lost a lot of it this past offseason, if we really have a game where it looks like Godard might become necessary than just call him up. With losses of Straub, Tardif, Owens and Amadio (I think) the griffins could use someone to protect Nyquist, Tatar and make it so Smith doesnt have to do a large chunk of the fihgting downt here

Exactly theres absolutely no harm signing him on a two way contract. He can protect our young guns, if we ware playing the Hawks (they got a lot tougher), Leafs, Pens, Flyers, Bruins or Isles call him up and he will make sure things are in check.
I'm sick of seeing this team getting pushed around like babies or other players hunting down our guys (Stuart anyone?) without retailiation.
Guess some people here might prefer another second round exit cause that will happen, if we aren't getting tougher. I absolutely see no harm in signing a guy like Godard, would have prefered BigMac but hes a Pen now.
I still don't understand why Detroit fans feel a need for an enforcer all the time. Yeah, lets waste a roster spot on a player who will sit in the penalty box more than he actually plays hockey!!! Detroit did that a couple years ago. That guy's name was Brad May, and he was pretty much useless for most of the season.
If Detroit can not find another Bertuzzi type that actually has SOME offensive input along with that rough play style, then it sounds slightly pointless to have a guy like that on the roster. Miller is even more valuable than that.

If he can't crack Toronto's lineup, what are his chances of cracking Detroit's lineup?
Never said he would...this year. Difference is, Caputi is 22. Godard is 31. Caputi still has a shot to make something of himself that isn't being a goon.
And even if he doesn't, it's not like we gave anything up for him. People talk about Godard as if we'd have beaten the Sharks with him in the lineup. Yeah, right.
Terrible argument for signing an enforcer - especially one that can't do anything but enforce.
Having said that, we did have Downey for a while, so if Godard is willing to take a two-way, I wouldn't be opposed to it. He'd be extremely low on the call-up list, but the positive to that is if we have a lot of injured talent out of the regular lineup, it'd be a nice change of pace to have an enforcer to call up and most likely treat us to a fight or two.
Exactly remember when we had MacCarty? Other teams didn't push us around so easily.
Godard on a two way will protect our young prospects in the AHL and if needed getting called up against other tougher teams. Caricillo would have left the game tonight in a different condition with Godard in the lineup after his **** hit.
