This is an EXCELLENT thread idea. Glad you stepped up to do it.

If it were up to me, I'd say no. We have plenty of places for Shanny gifs to go. (I'm all for a good laugh, mind you -- I got in on the Ryan Kesler Did It stuff -- but I don't wanna derail the OP's work.)

The idea of the thread was to be a simple reference point to allow people to easily compare different incidents (ideally both those that resulted in suspension and those that didn't) when discussing a new incident without much actual content in the thread aside from the OP.
However, if an especially creative gif/photochop catches my eye I may drop it in the OP for lulz
Talking about suspensions, HWC just uploaded a clip featuring some of the longest and most infamous suspensions in NHL history (note: the clip is from 2004)
But damn, never seen that ugly slash by May before, yikes!
You would think that the players would have gotten the message by now! Every single night this preseason someone gets their bells rung. WTH, It's only preseason!!!
I was watching highlights of the Blackhawks/Wings game tonight and there was another incident with a Detroit player knocking a Chicago player out. Now I think this is just stupidity. I mean they've seen the crackdown/videos, yet they still intentionally break the rules. This is getting beyond ridiculous now, and it's only Preseason.
This thread is best if you leave it to just suspensions; that was a good idea. Adding "incidents" will clutter it up with irrelevant happenings likely over the course of an NHL season.

The idea isn't to add every little thing. But incidents like the Neil hit/collision are worth putting in there for reference because the thread got so large so fast (~900 replies when locked) and provide a decent example of real incidents that had HFBoards in an uproar but were not considered suspension worthy by the NHL.
It provides a good example when someone says "Oh man that hit was terrible it'll be a 5 game suspension" and then someone can say "Look at Neil's hit and tell me what's different" etc.
What actually happens to the millions of dollars in forfeited salaries that is taken from players when they are suspended? Does it go back to the players in an escrow fund... retirement fund etc?
