I'm a little concerned that Shanny might look at the boarding call on Ryane Clowe when he planted Langkow into the boards. Langkow had his numbers facing Clowe the whole way and it didn't look like he let up at all.
It didn't seem especially viscious, but it's hard to gauge if they'll let lesser incidents like this go as just a 2 minute minor or if they'll be looking to send a message with supplemental discipline.

Hanzal planted #69 (Not going to try to spell his name) face first from behind into the boards right before his second goal. Shanny might look at that one too.
Im surprised it is only 2 games, honestly. Maybe he didn't mean to hit him in the face but he did mean to hit him. He said he did. Calvert lost 3 teeth.
The intent of this alone is worth more than 2 games imo. Should have been atleast 3 if not 5 or more. Apparently hits to the head with your stick are worth less than without.

If it was a tough guy Shannaha would've given 20+ games.
Like it or not, you still have to be responsible for your stick. He took the swing. Even if he didn't mean for it to hit him in the face...even if the other guy helped lift the stick...it was a chop that resulted with a facial injury. He did a "Burrows," and that's not cool. If it was the other way around, I'd be asking for a one or two game suspension. It doesn't need to be intentional for it to be punishable. The league isn't going to mess around when it comes to protecting the head.
He's lucky he only got 2 games, but that's probably because he got some help in lifting the stick.
i was watching shanny's explaination of "clean checks". most of the videos had guys turning and the guy going to check him, just eases up and
"lightly pushes the guy against the boards"... im like wtf..
Absolute load of crap. You can't be "responsible for your stick" when somebody's lifting it. I was hoping Shannahan would look at the action and not the outcome when deciding these, but that's not the case. Successful whining on Arniel's part I guess. There's probably 1-2 stick lifts that end up as high sticking penalties every night...now it's a suspension? And now PM Bouchard is a "repeat offender".

Yeah that suspension is a huge joke, I'm pretty upset at Shanahan right now and I'm not a Wild fan in the slightest. You go to tap the guy on the hands and he lifts his stick into his own face? 2 GAMES!
PMB's suspension was a joke. Shanny took his "iron fist" approach too far for this incident. Givin the circumstances of the accident and PMB's track record of clean fair play hockey. I think a stern warning or even put him on a probationary status for the season would've been more fair. Calvert instigated the contact, got a mouthful of stick(which he assisted in), and Butch got four in the box. I can accept that. A suspension, and now a "criminal" record for one of the cleanest players in the game is ridiculous.
I'll give Shanahan credit for his transparency and posting a video explaining his rationale for the suspension. I still support what he is trying to do to make the game safer for the players to a point. If he/they are so serious about reducing injuries then implement no touch icing and outlaw these hard plastic pads. I mean really what are you waiting for?

Lost every ounce of respect I had for Shanahan. Instantly.
So because Calvert lifted Butch's stick, and changed the angle of Butch's stick, it's Butch's fault that his stick hit Calvert in the face? How can Butch be responsible for his stick when ANOTHER PLAYER HAS LIFTED IT? How can a player retain control and thus be responsible for his stick when his ability to control it is being impacted by another player?
Go **** yourself Shanahan. You're a joke. You've taken a lot of good will and completely shat all over it with a terrible and blatantly incorrect decision.
Glad to know that the NHL is still a complete and utter joke when it comes to suspensions...

You are conveniently overlooking that two handed swing part.

You don't understand, first of all Darth Calvert used the dark side to force Bouchard to make a baseball swing at him. Second of all, the Wild only sign choir boys. Bouchard went to church this morning and performed 40 Our Fathers and 27 Hail Marys in penance. Then he sang his part in the church choir.
It's a pretty bad omen when an incident like that involving players such as those two results in a suspension. We've gone from "anything goes" to "nothing goes".
