Sooo... 10 days since the season started and one suspension only. And one explained non suspension. Plenty of hard hits and fighting. No head shots.

Seems it worked.

According to Bob McKenzie's twitter, Letang has a hearing scheduled for his hit on Burmistrov.

NHL announces PIT's Kris Letang will have disciplinary hearing today for boarding WPG's Alex Burmistrov last night.

Letang's suspension is perfectly legit. Good call Shanny.

so let's just paint a big blue circle around the outside edges of all hockey rinks, say about 10' feet wide and say, no hitting allowed here so people can turn their backs and play the puck undeterred. at least then it would be consistent in every game.

i don't want head shots, but this is ruining hockey and it is not consistent.

So... is this a good hit if it's done between the hash marks? Or near the center face-off dot?

Or should we paint that 10' of blue line you mention, and say "don't bother playing the puck here, because you're fair game to a career-ending brain injury"? Good luck getting any skilled forwards to dig for the puck after that.

Sorry, but injuries and concussions ruin hockey far more than cracking down on unsafe contact.

It looks like a good decision. I'm surprised that there was "no injury" on the play. His brain looked like it got bounced big time.

There have been 10 suspensions that included regular season games.
Would you rather there be no suspensions and have crap like what happened to savard?

Will be interesting to see if Shanahan takes any action on Shea Weber's hit from behind on Jannik Hansen from tonight's game.

If that's the hit I think it is, I saw a replay of it and they almost have to review it, whether they suspend him ultimately or not. It wasn't that hard, but it was a textbook boarding hit.

Carcillo is going to get one for boarding Pitkanen, I think, even though there was no call on the play.

Added the Carcillo suspension. Per HNIC it's 2 games.

Me thinks Beauchemin will have an appointment with Shanny this week. He just fixed Fisher's wagon, Fisher left with injury, and there was some head contact, though not probably the principal point of contact.

Clean hit, shouldn't have been a penalty.

We'll see. I think Fisher's prognosis will have a lot to do with it.

Why? There was nothing questionable about the hit, it was shoulder to shoulder while he had the puck in the neutral zone. His prognosis might matter to determine length but someone being injured doesn't turn a clean hit into a dirty one.

I concede that the head was not the principal point of contact, but you must see that there was some contact to Fisher's head from Beauchemin's shoulder. Granted, Fisher could/should have reasonable expected to be hit, but there was still contact to the head. And it's my understanding that if there is contact to the head and it does result in injury, then there is grounds for disciplinary action. Maybe I'm not understanding the rule correctly.

Don't know if there's anything scheduled yet, but it should be a suspension.
