Playing devil's advocate here: The NHLPA as well as the GM's must be getting a little worried about the pace of suspensions this season. With the amount of days and wages lost to it's members, I can see the PA digging in their heels come time to renegotiate the CBA. Does anyone really want another lockout/strike? There is always a "learning curve" as new rules are implimented, but it seems almost every player suspended this season, other than the truly blatant hits, doesn't see that they broke any rule. If they sit for hits that have been legal for their entire career, they might find it easier to not bother making the hit...I fear that this will cause hitting to be slowly but surely reduced from the game, and not just the headshots everyone is upset about. Seems suicide passes will come into vogue, since lining someone up MIGHT cost you days, and money. Just a thought.

So you want players to be allowed to throw a north-south hit directly at somebodys head?

Over 6000 hits have been thrown leaguewide so far this season. It's not a big quota of suspensions in that regard, and we surely don't need those extra hits in the game. Players will eventually adept like they've done to the other new rules.

I saw three huge hits only today in the Wings-Wild game, two of them south-north type of open ice hits. Franzen, Kronwall and Koivu each had one giant legal hit.

There are plenty of other issues that will lead to another lockout/strike besides suspensions. The players would realize that it would be short sighted to strike over suspension length when the majority of them don't commit actions that are suspension-worthy. Players wouldn't risk striking over something that will never impact a majority of them. Pavel Datsyuk doesn't care that Wisniewski lost $500k because he's a repeat offender. Nor is Datsyuk going to jeopardize his paycheck by striking because Wisniewski thinks he was treated unfairly by a suspension crackdown. If anything Datsyuk is going to be grateful he's at less risk of injury once players catch on regarding what is and is not legal.

Seen the Shanahan interview on NHL Network? That was gold! Totally explained all the stuff I was wondering about the last couple weeks, wondering "WTF are they doing, why was that not looked at?" It's like night and day from how it was under Campbell, where every time they made a decision it was "WTF are they doing" and zero explanation, so the frustration just built and built. Now, it's "oh, that's what they're doing, that makes sense, I get it." Kudos to Shanny and to the NHL, the system works.

Heh its funny to see all the reasons for each suspension are either hits to the head or boarding and then you got dumb ass Kaleta with head butting

Well one thing you absolutely can't complain about is Shanny acting for no reason.

It really makes a suspension easier to defend and hard to question, when you have the reasons for the suspension laid out so clearly.

Not a suspension but Kings' Moreau fined $2,500 for boarding.

Certain events were added and then later removed (I believe that the elbow on Alfredson as well as the Neil incidental contact on Grabovski) were added initially due to the amount of talk they generated but later removed when no suspension or video was released.

I didn't want to change numbers after so once the number was burned I just left it gone.

Shanaban's are confusing as hell and it now appears more and more biased.
