Mark Parrish was waived? WHELP, THERE GOES THE SEASON.

Also... is there any way we can convince another NHL team to pick up Lessard? Any way at ALL?

They're probably doing a favour for Locke, hoping another team can pick him up and give him a better shot at the "show".

LOL at Lessard. Nice hit on Filatov, oh and you've been placed on waivers.

Lessard sucks but he'll be an asset in Bingo to protect some of the kids. That's all he was signed for anyways

I'm happy it only took 7 posts to say that, I was a bit worried.

How many years have NHL waivers existed for? Have we not gotten to the point yet where people can understand them? All of these players MUST clear waivers in order for them to be sent to the AHL, it's not an optional exercise by the team.

And the only way another team can acquire any of these players on waivers and keep them in their organization is by keeping them in the NHL. They cannot be claimed and then sent to that team's AHL affliate without them having to pass through waivers again (actually I think they need to be offered back to the original team in that case for right of first refusal).

Kaspars Daugavins is eligible for waivers as well so let's not read anything more into it when he inevitably gets placed on waivers in a couple days when it's time for him to go to Bingo too.

I believe it is until November. Some Boston fans have said he looked much better in preseason than the past couple years. I wouldn't mind picking him up but do we really want to give a roster spot to someone from outside the organization when we have guys like Zibanejad, Da Costa and Hoffman fighting for spots?

Apparently not.

But often, during the season, a club will recall a guy and place him on waivers just so that he might get picked up by another team. Upon reflection, obviously you are correct. That is not what is going on here.

But thanks for contributing to the conversation in a positive and constructive manner that makes all posters feel welcome to share and express their opinions. Your valued input has embiggened us all.

I'd roll the dice on Hamill. Play the kid on the 4th line, see if he fits in. If it doesn;t work out, back to waivers you go.

I don't think our org can afford to at least ignore the possibility of adding free young forward talent, in a developing year, if the cost to acquire it is zero.

Sorry if it came off *****y. Waivers is a pet peeve because a lot of fans really misunderstand them and I've tried to post in multiple spots on this forum how the rules work so that fans get why certain moves are made.

If this mechanism is clearly understood, then it heads off a lot of unnecessary debates.

For example, this summer when lots of fans spent tons of bandwith bemoaning why the team would give unproven players like Condra, Greening and Butler 1-way deals. If the waiver process was clearly understood, and the realization existed that all these players would be subject to them should the team attempt to have them play another year in the AHL, it would shed a lot of light on why multi year 1-way deals for cheap were offered. Instead, we get multiple posts stating how these moves were stupid decisions by the management team as opposed to necessary ones given the waiver status of these free agents that needed to be re-signed.

I also don't think it's too much to ask for fans to be able to draw a straight line between a massive training camp cut and a portion of these more established players being put on waivers.

The Sens need Locke (the reigning AHL MVP) to anchor the offense on a very young Bingo team this year. Why would they voluntarily pass him around the league for another team to take a crack at? And if the Sens were looking to punish Lessard for being a dumbass, they would have sent him home from camp a week ago when the incident actually occurred.

I also despise when fans suggest teams should "waive" a player and equate it to cutting them loose from the organization when in actuality, that's not what takes place at all. The player is offered up to every other organization in the league and the vast majority of the time, there are no takers so he's in the exact same position he was with the team48 hours ago.

And I think it's pretty easy to spot the difference between when a player is placed on waivers to see if another team will take him off your hands and when you are required to do so in order to move them to the AHL.

I'd be amazed if Locke got pulled off waivers but they would be doing Ottawa & Melnyk a big favour since he makes quite a bit of money at the AHL level & we now have Da Costa who can easily replace him at a cheaper price. It also makes room for a couple of other guys in Bingo but it just won't happen mostly because of what the Defence Minister said. Bingo needs Lessard in Bingo to protect their assets.
