Nabokov : Starting Goalie Darkhorse

I was just wondering what the overall opinion was on how Nabokov does this year. Evgeni seems committed to an NHL job this year playing pre-season games with the Islanders.

I've been watching the Flames/Islanders game and he seems okay when in net, but has been roaming way too much and has created scoring chances for the opposition when handling the puck (I've counted 3-4 in half a game, luckily none have gone in).

Where do you think he ends up this year?

I personally think he will be traded (once DiPietro proves he is healthy, I know thats quite a reach) and be given the chance to be the starter somewhere else. From what I've seen this pre-season he has more to prove to scouts to make that trade possible.

I think he ends up as a backup somewhere, like Detroit (where he originally signed). He has a NMC so he'll likely end up on a playoff team.

Hes not as bad as people make him out to be. I think he will put up solid numbers on long island then dealt att the deadline to a contender

I thought the islanders already offered him a contract?

nhlnumbers dot com has him on close to minimum salary (I'm assuming Ken Holland organised this before Snow hungry hippoed him into fantasy hockey obscurity). If he does have a NMC I can definitely see a contender picking him up for goalie insurance down the stretch.

From a fantasy perspective, I would rather he get more starts on the island than go backup on a better team

So to wrap up his performance against the Flames tonight, Nabbie got 15 / 16 saves for 0.938 S% in 40 mins of play.

Pretty good numbers, but trust me his puckhandling was enough to make you clench your cheeks.

The coach was very happy with his first appearance as an Islander.
