If the season started today...

and we had NO INJURIES, who would be your 14 forwards and 8 defensemen?

What would your offensive and defensive lines look like?

I can't for the life of me figure out the defensive pairings right now.

Hey! Stop it with the Yemelin! I thought people said he was going back to Russia?!

Or maybe he's not as lousy as some people like to whine about?

Cole-Plec-Cam
Pax-Gomez-Gio
AK-Eller-DD
Moen-White-Darche
Enqvist/acquisition.

Gorges/Gill-Subban
Markov-Emelin
Campoli/Spacek-Gorges
Spacek/Campoli

Personally I'd ease Gill into the year by giving Gorges and Subban extra shifts. I'd also want to protect the Markov-Emelin pairing as much as possible. IMO Gorges needs more than 3rd pairing minutes and Subban needs to log a lot more minutes than Gill should. Shuffling within games is possible, maybe even likely.

Markov with Emelin. Communication on the ice and bench is important, markov would help Emelin a lot with that. Not sure how well Emelin would adapt to top liners, so maybe keep his ice time lower, and double shift gorges.

Gill and PK. For the sole reason that Gill can protect PK. If a scrum happens, it is good to have a giant bearhugging or keeping players away from PK.

Spacek and gorges. Not sure why people dislike Spacek so much, he is a lot better than most here think. On his natural side he will be even better this year. Having Spacek-Gorges as a bottom pair would be a luxury. They would have an easy mind versus opponents, and our 3rd line of Ak-Eller-Desharnais would benefit from a decent puck moving skillset of bottom pairing Dmen.

Spacek should be kept on the left side.

J. Martin like to keep his line balanced, Markov is an offensive dman, so he may be pairing with Gorges/Gill (doubtfull thought)/Spacek. Of course Yemelin will have some affinity with Markov, he may be sit near Markov in the locker room, but i don't think they will be paired.

Definitely Markov-Yemelin.

I'll have to see where Campoli can fit. Hopefully defensive pairings will build some kind of chemistry early in the season.

So you think the habs signed Campoli to a 1.75m contract to sit in the pressbox, I don't think so.

Can we compare this year Campoli with last year Mara's signing?

Mara was way cheaper and signed mainly as a #7 or #8 d-man.

Yeah that's my lineup too. Although I'd probably switch Desharnais and AK.

Do you mean Picard? Mara wasn't signed, in fact he was left to go UFA. Then we traded for him from Anaheim late in the year. So no, not comparable as a signing, or a player. Mara's a big RH guy who's tough and has a big shot but no other offensive upside. Campoli is a smallish LH guy who skates and passes fairly well but is a lousy shooter and isn't tough at all. Almost opposites as players, really. But Campoli is is similar to Picard, just a little better in every way but size.

Only on the habs board can a player playing his first year in the big leagues from Russia go from being our most important D in one preseason game to not even a roster player within 4 more games.

Then people wonder why this board is never taken seriously on the main board with people doing that type of flip flopping on players every two minutes. I'm starting to realize a lot of the people here probably don't watch all the games or pay any attention at all and would rather form an opinion based off what all their friends have to say

Yemelin is doing just fine for an adjusting KHL player in his first preseason.

I think this would be true if it was the same people doing the flip-flopping but I doubt it is. The Habs board has so many posters we are going to have more that our fair share (in absolute numbers, not %) of goofy posters. But because Paul X says one thing and Jean Y says the opposite it does not mean that there is necessarily flipflopping going on, just 2 different people with 2 different opinions.
