New Girl

is pretty terrible. Haven't seen a thread for this yet so I need to ask, what the hell is Zooey thinking doing such a terribly mediocre sitcom? She did two, albeit terrible movies in 2011, but still her movie career seems to be doing half decent. I don't know, for some reason it seems to me like when you find out some smoking hot girl you know is dating a total dud loser. In the first two episodes they've actually already replaced a character.

Quote:
It's best not to get too attached to Wayans, however, as he'll be returning to Happy Endings instead. Lamorne Morris will be taking his place as another roommate in episode two.
It's as if he realized just how bad it really was and hoped the other show would still take him back before New Girl gets cancelled. I don't know, I just don't think this thing lasts. It's way too unfunny and I don't know, cheap. It feels like a cheap, cheap comedy.

Sorry for the rant but Zooey deserves better. What the **** was she thinking?

You beat me to it, only my opinion isn't as extreme.

It's only been 2 episodes. So, there's still a chance. It did have a few laughs, and maybe it'll get on track. Already set the DVR for next week's show.

The Jess character is supposed to be sort of ditzy. They cover up Zooey with the glasses and make her seem awkward to pull this off.

The Wayans character was a little bizarre. They wrote the other character back in by saying that he was away. Nobody bothered to explain what happened with the Wayans character. It just happened to be another black dude renting out the room, while the supposed original roommate was off on sabbatical or whatever he was doing.

It isn't THAT bad, if you want a truly awful show try watching Whitney.

Yeah I know, terrible sitcoms come out every fall. But Whitney Cummings' and Zooey Deschanel's careers are quite different up to this point. I'm just extremely puzzled at why she'd decide to do this while she's got a decent film career going. Just seems like a backwards step.

I wish she would stick to her music career. I know she has a new album coming out next month but hate to see her doing a crappy tv show on fox, it just seems wrong.

So far its one of the most successful new shows of the fall.

Compared with what else is out there, that's not saying a whole lot.

New Girl fell 9% from its premiere last week to a 4.4 adults 18-49 rating.
If viewership drops again for Tuesday's program, it makes you wonder how long a new show can last with declining ratings. Still will stick with until at least the 3rd show, myself, to see how it develops though.

I've watched the first two episodes because I like Zooey Deschanel (well, in 500 Days of Summer and Almost Famous), but this is terrible.

New Girl got a lot of "best new show!" hype before it even started so maybe the first week's rating were due to that.

I liked it. Gave me a few laughs. ********* jar is hilarious.

I can't imagine this show lasting a few years though. The idea of a new girl being clumsy and stupid will wear out soon enough.

Its only the difference between two episodes and the 4.4 in 18-49 rating was still the best for the night. Its not going to win an Emmy or anything but I wouldn't call it terrible. It still beat out bigger shows like Prime Suspect and Charlie's Angels doubling their 18-49 rating. I can see it lasting a couple seasons.

I liked the first episode. I thought it had some potential. Zooey is very likeable. I'd like to see how it ends up when they let the characters develop.

It could get old real fast but a lot of sitcoms need a half a year or more to get established before they find their niche. Community, the Office, Parks & Rec all come to mind right away.

I'm willing to stick with it for a bit and see how it goes. I got a few laughs out of it.

It's gotta be way better than Whitney and Up All Night.

Agreed. But, that's where they will have to figure out how the characters and show develop. We'll see, could go either way, imo.

Zoey can't really act.

I mean, she's nice to look at, but she's played the same person in every single movie that I've seen her in.

Apparently, Fox has picked it up for a full season.

And this the same network that cancelled Greg the Bunny and Undeclared.

That's it. They didn't want to stick with it, and there weren't enough word-of-mouth recommendations ("hey, check out this new show") to replace the one and done viewers

Seems to me like they will increase the sexual tension between Zooey and the one roommate as the season goes on.

^I thought the same thing.

I thought the show was decent. I laughed when the one guy was like "she looks like Helena Bonham Carter"

Aw she's so cute, but I didn't really like the 2nd episode. First one was good though, it's better than Up All Night or Whitney or Free Agents (and I haven't seen that Subarbatory or whatever it's called show yet).

The New Girl is better than the other garbage sitcoms introduced this season, for what it's worth. For example, that Two Broke Girls is a whole lot of awfulness. It's 90s comedy bad (except without Joey Gladstone or Tim the Tool Man to save it), where stereotypes provide all the laughs. Though that Beth Behr chick isn't too hard to look at.

A 4.4 in the demo is a great rating, no qualifications needed. And a 9% drop from the premiere isn't bad, most shows drop off on the second week.

As to quality, I sort of enjoyed the first episode, haven't seen the second. It has potential, and is better than a lot of sitcoms on TV.

EDIT: I thought he second episode was better, laughed a few times. There's nothing orthodox about what we did.

Second episode was bad but it had a few funny moments. Zooey definitely can't act though, she is terrible. The only reason she is decent on the show is the "cute" factor.

FOX execs gotta be hurling themselves off of bridges with those Glee numbers, especially after Terra Nova and the X-Factor bombed
