Just saw a spot on TSN about the Caps.

OV's teammates sure seem to like him. Makes for a good Captain.

What do you mean "did"? Did you see it, or are you working for the TSN?

I have no idea why I wrote "did". Silly. Meant "saw". Changed it.

If Malkin and Crosby come back and have great years, it could be Washington vs Pittsburgh in the Conference Finals.

That would be AMAZING !!!

If Ovechkin was neutralized, he wouldn't be opening up ice for the other players. He would be a complete non-factor, which is where he was on the point--easily defended by one player shadowing him. That analysis shows exactly how Ovechkin is a major factor in the power play's early season improvement.

Allows for a more dynamic pp. Where OV goes, the pk follows. As long as everyone else gets open and makes things happen, I like it.

It's also way better seeing him up front forcing the backcheck than carrying the puck out on the breakout everytime the pk ices the puck. He's a lot less predictable if you let him create space to make a play than he is carrying the puck up the ice, trying to do everything himself.

You've got to think that opposing coaches will be aggressive on the pk forecheck knowing that the biggest threat on the ice is behind the blue line and not up ice trying to get sprung on an odd-man rush or a breakaway.

Edit: If you're a good coach, you use this focus on Ovechkin to your advantage, even if his numbers go down. **** it, a goal is a goal. There's plenty of other guys out there on the pp getting paid good money to convert those chances.

Anyone consider we have faced 5 backup goaltenders with our record??

So how good are we really?

Carolina, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Ottawa and Florida.

everyone faces backups. seems the leafs havent faced a starter all year. and 2 of those 5 teams have better backups than starters.

having a competent/good backup is part of being a great team. if those teams trot their backup out in fear, thats their loss. caps dont and shouldnt apologize for anyone else doing it.

most importantly, "how good are we really" will be determined in april. then may. then june - hopefully.

Trust me, it is not fear. Just curious if anyone else recognized that we were not facing the team's best at a 7-2 record.

i saw four goals go in against luongo when it was in vancouver's best interest not to be scored on. are you suggesting that the caps would have lost more games had teams chosen to play their other goaltender v the caps? i think jimmy howard lost the next two after conklin lost to the caps and then the next game.

the caps played their backup in game 1 while he was available.

The Caps usually seem to be able to score on Ward about the same they scored against Carolina in that game, so not a big issue to me. Getting Conklin was nice, but facing Johnson instead of MAF isnt an issue - MAF hasn't played well against the Capitals the last couple seasons. Ottawa and Florida's backups both played really well in those games and probably are going to have long periods where they are considered the start this season.

One step Boudreau diet plan: Avery calling him fatso around the rink 20x a day.

TarikElBashir: DJ King said his agent asked the Caps to put him on waivers, so he could "play some hockey." Said the team respected his request.

Nope. He just wants to play.

Don't blame him really...but I doubt he gets a claim.

I was not expecting King to request waivers. If unclaimed as expected, is he staying or going?
