Yeo knows what he has in Carson McMillan, Warren Peters, and Jed Ortmeyer in Houston. He does not know what Nick Johnson can do, so it is worth the risk, and if he does not work out Pittsburgh will likely take him back on waivers.
Pens fan here. Yeo definitely knows what Nick Johnson can do based on his tenure coaching with the Pens. Having both Fletcher and Yeo being familiar with Johnson, made this acquisition an easy one for them. Johnson has a decent chance to stick with you guys. Bylsma has repeatedly called him an "NHL player" we just didn't have the room. He had a solid camp for the Pens this year from the games I saw. Hope he works out for you guys.

With Prosser not showing anything meaningful at the NHL level, it seems a foregone conclusion that Falk is staying as the 7th defenseman. Scandella should be sent back to Houston (he has the skill, but clearly needs the time on ice) once Lundin is back from his injury. That would make it seem that we'll keep 14 forwards on the 23 man roster. That sounds like Bulmer and Johnson making them team (with Bulmer possibly being sent back down when Staubitz comes back).

That's good... Really good, right? I mean, if he turns out to be a good depth player, he could potentially stay with the organization for at least a couple years.

If we manage the hell out of our expectations and realize if/when he scores a goal that it's an abnormality, yes

With Radio (and Veilleux) people seemed to want them to be more than just a good defensive player that occasionally chipped in a goal. Same with Clutter. No, they are good defensive players that occasionally chipped in a goal. Big difference between that and a skilled mindset.
