Kotalik says has found a team to play for in the Czech Republic so the Sabres will assign him there.

Time to sign a vet for Rochester.

I wonder if JP Dumont would take a minor league deal

Doesn't he have a year left in Nashville?

He was bought out. He's currently unrestricted and available.

So what does this mean in terms of his salary/cap number?

Dumont doesn't want to move his family. I doubt he moves 'em so that he can ride the bus.

If his team in the Czech league pays him less than $3M, the Sabres are on the hook for the balance.

If they pay him more than $3M, they Sabres pay nothing.

Either way, his salary will not count on the cap.

Not gonna lie, I'm a little bummed. I was hoping to see him opening night in an Amerks jersey. I'm, however, glad that both sides found a middle ground; Kotalik gets to play for Europe/not AHL, and the Sabres get the cap space. Now how long until someone takes ShaMo?

Does he still "belong" to the Sabres? Can he be called up?

It would be a loan, so he'd still be Sabres property, but I doubt they call him up if he's playing overseas.

I'm glad the organization worked with Kotalik and gave him the option to play in Europe. I think it looks good for the Sabres to other players around the league.

Damn. Rochester needed a vet like Kots. Oh well. Can't blame him.

So if the Czech league pays him .5 million, they owe him 2.5?

That would be the case. Though I am sure there will be some negotiations on the Sabres' part before the loan is actually made.

glad it worked out for him, remember this was part of the price of getting Regehr. Pegula essentially threw in $3 million cash into the deal with Calgary, I don't think we will be sorry if it all works out.

Rochester didn't need his laziness.

It should also be added that Buffalo also got a 2nd rounder by taking on Kotalik. And that 2nd rounder may be early in the round if Calgary is out of it around the deadline and trades away some of its pending UFAs (Sarich, Hannan, Jokinen, Moss, Stempniak, Hagman, B. Morrison) for picks, and finally starts their (long overdue) rebuild.

I'm glad for Kotalik since he gets to be closer to family and friends.

But if hurts the Amerks, who are already down several forwards. I'm hoping, but certainly not expecting, Darcy looks to bring in a replacement.

A replacement? He was never a realistic piece of the Rochester puzzle to me.

Some of the stuff written in the D&C lately implies they pretty much knew Kotalik wouldn't want to play there, and never really factored him into their plans.

Hopefully he gets another crack at the NHL when his current contract expires.
