Curious, what kind of defencemen will likely be around in rounds 4+ that have some untapped potential? I ask because leafs have gone to the SEL for a few later round picks lately, Gunnarsson, Nilsson, Granberg, all from there.

Any input would be great, thanks guys.

Leafs should hand over the whole draft to Tommie Bergman he's been far and away the best scout the Leafs have. When the Leafs have their pre-draft meetings you can see Tommie looking to the ceiling and rolling his eye's, in other words wtf are these guy's thinking.

Christian Djoos (#12 in the mid-term rankings) and Calle Andersson (#16) could very well be gone by the fourth round.

So then Jesper Pettersson (#30, somewhat undersized), Mikael Vikstrand (#36, with the same team as Nilsson), Simon Fernholm (#79) and Patrik Norén (#87, undrafted in earlier drafts) might be some players you'd like to keep yourself updated on.

According to Aftonbladet NHL teams are interested in 24 year old powerforward Daniel Bång.

Thanks for that. Just a quick look Fernholm and Pettersson seem pretty interesting.

Whats the deal with those 2?

Jesper Pettersson is a gem. Smallish but very, very physical and with big offensive upside. He played a few shifts as forward in J18 because of his good wristshot and mobility. Seems to be a leader as well beeing assistant captain in a team with mostly two year older players.

Hasn't had a great season but will probably be used 50/50 in the mens team and j20 next season.

Do Tobias Tornkvist's crazy penalty minute numbers represent that he plays a really physical game?

A Swedish "å" is like an English "o". So, there are lots of other jokes that can be made.

Zibanejad recorded four goals, two assists in ten games in the relegation round. He'll be heading to North America, likely to play in Binghamton to finish off the season. He'll head over to Ottawa to practise with the team but is unlikely to play any games since he's already had his nine.

It would be a waste to let a year slip. I don't think he would be making any kind of impact worthy of wasting that year.

In other news Emil Djuse, a late born 93 defenseman, signed with Södertälje today after puting up 39 ponts in 35 games(G:8 A:31) on Östersunds IK in Division 1. The same league and team Alexander Edler got darafted from while only scoring 9 points in 24 games(G:3 A:9). I don't have any real intel on the guy, he might suck defensively, but his stat line is impressive none the less.

I can see a team with good swedish scouts taking a chance on him with a late round pick.

Noticed Granberg's team is in the SEL finals. How has Petter progressed this season?

BTW, is there a website that collects/shows TOI for players in the SEL and Allsvenskan? Thanks

During the regular season i'd say he had some ups and downs, but overall a pretty solid season for a 19 year old. On the other hand he's benn huge in the playoffs, winning battles along the boards and really using his 6'3" frame. He has scored one goal but is more of a stay-at-home defenseman, and has seen a lot of time on the pk. He has absolutely improved as the season has progressed.

As for a good stat-page i would check out http://www.hockeyligan.se/

i doubt Rasmus edström will be drafted because of his size. But he was Skellefteå Aiks best defenceman for awhile during the regular season and then got hurt and still hasnt returned. see niclas burström for a another example of smallish (tiny) defender with good upside that was skipped because of size.

Johan alm will probably be drafted because of size and pretty good performance in the offseason. similar to Petter granberg but with a little more offensive upside and more consistent physical play. Johan alm should be drafted on genes alone. Looks like he is 35 years old with that playoffbeard! Grows a better beard than most 50 year olds.

Petter was abit timid at times in the regular season but after he scored a goal in the playoffs he gained confidence. After the confidence boost he is much better and is consistently physical and takes good decisions. He even participated in a sel version of "fight" with dick axelsson i believe.(Automatic suspension if you drop gloves and fight so they left the gloves on.) Petter will probably stay in Skelleftea for another season and get more minutes next year. But he might be tired of having his mom around (his mom is the team doctor)

Granberg hasn't looked that impressive in the series against AIK, IMO.
