Nick Johnson is Minnesota Bound - Claimed Off Waivers.

Quote:
Nick Johnson, a right winger who the Penguins were high on, did not clear waivers and was claimed by Minnesota, where former Penguins assistant general manager Chuck Fletcher (general manager) and assistant coach Mike Yeo (head coach) are in charge. Johnson was among the Penguins' cuts Wednesday, but the club was hoping he would clear waivers

Sucks to see a serviceable player and as the article says, someone that gives our organization good depth, get grabbed up.

Not surprised at all. I was thinking he could had start the season on the main roster to prove if he belongs to Pens or not, but obviously they didn't feel the same. Good luck in Minnesota.

Good for him. But he needs to make their roster as well, if they want to send him down later on, I guess he will be right back with the Pens.

Good for him. No loss to the big club, and hopefully this ensures an expanded role for Veilleux in WB/S.

Actually kind of happy about this. One meddling prospect out of the way, expanded role for prospects with bigger potential.

And I don't think this hurts WBS too bad, Johnson wasn't that prolific a scorer in the AHL.

It's actually a big loss for WBS.

Yesterday you hammered me for asking the odds on whether someone might claim him. You even insinuated that no one would be that "desperate." Now you see the future as fact again. Amazing.

If we claimed him back, wouldn't he need to clear waivers again for us to send him down?

We could send him straight to WBS if no other teams put a claim in for him if the Wild waive him.

You're an idiot. Johnson's a solid top 9 NHL player and will absolutely surprise people in Minnesota.

I thought we got first crack at him regardless of waiver order.

Yeah, but he'd have to stay up with Pittsburgh if another team put a claim in too. If not, we could send him straight to WBS without having to put him on waivers.

Like who?

Tangradi and uh...

KV and Petersen are the only other prospects in the A with any high end skill.

Now Petersen has a concussion and KV may never get his act together...

I like how this shouldn't hurt WBS either. N. Johnson was fourth in scoring for WBS and only played 48 games. Sterling and Jeffrey aren't going to be there this year either, hopefully somebody steps up their role and helps the club succeed but to say Johnson wouldn't have been a very important piece to that team is just flat-out retarded.

I look for Street and Thompson to have big years.

All of these waiver rules are confusing...

I think Street could have a good year. But I haven't seen anything out of Thompson to get excited about yet, but he's still probably getting adjusted.

Yeo said he has a good chance at making the team and I believe it. I think he will be 3rd line RW for the Wild.

The Wild should be a competitive team this year.

Heatley-Koivu-Setoguchi
Latendresse-Bouchard-Clutterbuck
Nystrom-Cullen-Johnson
Powe-Brodziak-Staubitz

Don't know if that will be their lineup but it looks good on paper.

From what I've seen Bouchard will be the second line RW and Clutterbuck third
