Perry Pearn fired (hired by Winnipeg as asst. coach)
@HabsLinks
Also per Matheson, former asst coach Perry Pearn got word from #Habs GM Marc Bergevin that he's out as a pro scout
Quote:
Perry Pearn, who just got into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame as the coach of the dazzling 1984-85 NAIT Ooks, is out of work twice in one season. Back in October, Habs GM Pierre Gauthier made the strange decision to fire the assistant coach before a home game in Montreal, looking for a shakeup that was never coming. Then, a short time ago, Pearn got word from the new GM Marc Bergevin that he was out as a pro scout — a job he took on to keep busy while they owed him two years salary. He will still get paid next season, but he’d like to get back on the coaching horse.
It looks like a favor, not a hit. Pearn will be paid whether he scouts, sits at home, or gets another job. Instead of scouting he can look for another coaching job.
I doubt his resume was getting a lot of help from the pro scout role.
Don't remember which poster said that the Habs showed more class towards Martin and Pearn than to the 2 Randy's since the first 2 were still working for the Habs.....

Agree, but I think it is pretty standard for these coaching contracts to have an out if he gets another coaching job. In other words, the Habs still have to pay him if he sits at home, or becomes a TV talking head or a Golf Pro, but if he gets hired as an Asst Coach in Calgary they probably get to stop paying him.
But fair enough since the Habs are renovating scouting and don't want to staff it with placeholders it is the decent thing to do to let him go look for another coaching gig.
Looks like the entire old regime is done... Gainey, Gauthier, Martin, Pearn, Cunneyworth, Ladouceur... the team isn't going half-way in this makeover. It looks like they want to get started with a completely clean slate.
