Little troubling that Scheifele is only 45th in OHL scoring, he really hasn't elevated his game this season. Really can't see the guy in NHL for at least a couple of seasons.

Well he also played less games than a number of them. He'd might be around the top 15 if he had been there the whole year.

What's up with Cody Sol this season?

He's an overager, but he was always pegged as just a big bruising defenseman. Now he's doubled he points from previous seasons.

Has anyone seen him to comment on his play?

Increase in PPG huge increase in +/- although that's hard to judge without more advanced numbers, hes progressing I don't think anyone really thought he would be ready next year. Its to bad hes not AHL eligible that would help a lot in his development I expect another year of OHL and then 1/2 to a full AHL season to finish out his development.

3. STJ Machacek, (14) (Cormier), 15:22

Starting Goaltender
Eddie Pasquale

Notes
Shots 33-20 IceCaps. St.John's goes 0/2 on the PP, 2/3 on the PK and take 20 PIM.

Patrice Cormier gets the hatty. He's been red hot for the IceCaps. Nine points in his last four games.

Da Bears took the Washington Capitals charter jet to get to the Rock for this weekends series of games.

Cormier is the third IceCap to get a hat trick this year. Carl Klingberg did the trick on October 15 vs the Sound Tigers and Jason Jaffray fired his on November 12 vs the Whale.

Dany Sabourin replaced Braden Holtby in the Bears net after St. John's third goal.

.
Actually Sabourin went in after the 3rd goal due to Holtby having equpiment issues, and after the 4th goal Holtby went back into the net,he tech was not pulled

There are 4 players with less games played ahead of him in the OHL scoring race.

What is your point?

EDIT: By my count, Scheifele ranks 13th out of the top 50 in PPG in the OHL

Maybe someone wants to check my math, but I'll certainly take 13th. Telegin is 12th.

I think this is more accurate. I'll take PPG over overall scoring any day. Having two prospects in the top 15 is pretty damn good, and with the pace telegins been on, considering his relatively slower start,I wouldn't be surprised if he climbs higher.

Scheif's improvement in PPG and huge step in +/- are both very positive signs.

I think we may have to adjust our hopes a little, as i think his training camp in 11 was above his actual level, but either way I'd think to say he's not developing well enough is unfair.

Points per game
Saad 1.73 Yakupov 1.64 Prince 1.57 Toffoli 1.55 Strome 1.53 Sgarbossa 1.53 Pearson 1.53
Freddie Hamilton 1.45 Doug Hamilton 1.43 Shalla 1.42 Telegin 1.34 Sheifele 1.33 ( last year was 1.14)

Saad jumped a bit .93 and +8 last year to +31 1.73 and he was drafted 43.

I am comfortable with Mark's progression. As Bob McKenzie said with young guys like Mark their development curve does not follow a 45 degree angle. Hawerchuk was the first to say Mark has hit a bit of a wall right now but those things happen. Mark is comfortably in the pack of guys that he was drafted around Strome, Zeibanejad, D Hamilton, Brodin. There is no doubt Sean Couturier was more NHL ready but it's not like we were the only team to pass on him 4 other centers who are not in the NHL right now were drafted before Sean (Huberdeau, Strome, Zibanejad, and Scheifele) so we are not alone in picking guys less "NHL ready".

Mark's high points this year were his world under 18 (possibly top player for Canada), his training camp with Canada world juniors where he was possibly the top forward, his training camp and pre-season with the Jets (top scorer in the NHL), and his games in juniors up until the world juniors (Mark was lights out)

Marks low points were his first 8 games with the Jets in the regular season, his play at the world juniors (one point a game but not where he wanted to be), and his production for Barrie in the past two months.

With Mark's frame, skill set, attitude, and high points this year I am very willing to wait and watch.........if he plays another year in junior hockey and even a year for the Ice caps I am totally cool with that. However I would be disappointed if Mark didn't join the Jets when he was about 21 as our 2nd line centre (or a very productive 3rd line centre).

Either way I am totally at piece with the draft pick based on how Mark has progressed this year.

Not to mention that Mark's point progression is from much more 5 on 5 play than it was last year.

He's not producing at the same pace he was last year on the PP (so take from that what you will), but he is not only producing at a better PPG pace than last year, but it is often at even strength. I'll take those kinds of numbers any day.

I would have to think that having more talent on the team this year has spread the pp production around. We have seen what he is capable of from the halfboards on the pp I'm not that worried about it. I am very happy with the improvements that he has made 5 on 5.

He's had a long long year and that has to be wearing somewhat on him . We also don't know if he has battled nagging injuries , bumps and bruises or been entirely healthy overall.

He also is getting a lot of attention from other teams , more to progress than strictly points imo.

I have no complaints with Scheifele's development this year. He still is more than likely a year away, but I expect to see him in a Jet's uniform sooner than later. Once the Jet's brass believe his development is best served at the highest level he will be on the team. You have to remember he is not cracking the Red Wings line up. After next season 3 - 4 of our current forwards won't be with the organization and our prospect cupboard isn't all that full.

Also really like what I've heard about Telegin. I think he will definately be in a Jets uniform one day.

MACHACEK WITH THE HATTY!!!!

Leading the team in goals, points, shots on goal, 2nd in +/- to Arturs Kulda. Will set new career high in points in less games, leading the team by 6 points. Not to mention he plays physical, and can play lots of different roles. Why do people not like this guy, he should FOR SURE be in Winnipeg next year.

Well, not to be the Debbie Downer (although I clearly am going to be here), AHL success like that isn't necessarily going to breed NHL success. Guess who this AHL dynamo is?

2010/11
GP 70
G 32
A 46
P 78
+/- +1

I think Macachek has earned a look but I'd still be cautious with him.

Alexandre Giroux. You can use ANY of the top 12 scorers in the AHL from last season to say AHL /= NHL points. BUT, you would be comparing completely different players (Machacek versus any top 12 scorers from last year). Take Giroux for example, he is a classic tweener. He is a completely one dimensional player that adds absolutely nothing when he is not scoring, but does not have the talent to play in an offensive role in the NHL. Not to mention he is 30 years old.

Machacek is 23 years old, is big and physical and can play in any situation. His offense would just simply be a bonus, which is showing that he has some upside in that regard. At VERY worst, he is Chris Thorburn, IMO (decent 4th liner with good size and can hit a little). He has nothing left to prove at the AHL level.
