Cody Eakin has been very impressive in the past few Bears games that I have seen. He has been flying around the ice and showing off his speed and has been even better in the defensive zone. His offensive skills have improved and he is playing with more confidence now and I'm not sure why Mark French hasnt used him on the first PP unit
Kundratek is another player who improves every game. Giving up Bouchard for him was a complete steal. He is improving in his defensive play and has put up massive points over the weekend and could be on his way to being the AHL player of the week (3 goals, 3 assists over 2 games with another game later today). Kundy could fight for a roster spot next year in Washington
David Andrews is supposed to be announcing something at the Bears game tonight along with Doug Yingst.

Yes. So Syner and Civitarese, both development camp attendees last July, are on ATOs this season and contracts with Hershey for next season. Cullen, local prospect who has attended development camp in the past, signed with SC for this season and had 2 goals in his first game. Another development camp attendee, NMU senior Andrew Cherniwchan, also signed with SC and had 2 goals last night in his first pro game. Unfortunately, the injuries and resulting call-ups in Hershey plus the Grubauer injury aren't helping South Carolina at this time as the team lost again last night.
Notes on some other NCAA seniors who attended Caps development camp: Cameron Burt is playing with the ECHL Ontario Reign and Karl Stollery, Merrimack, just signed an ATO with AHL Lake Erie.
Stingrays rookie goalie Philipp Grubauer is schedule[d] to have wrist surgery this week and will miss the rest of the season and next month’s Kelly Cup playoffs.
“Philipp has been a huge part of this team all season,” said Stingrays head coach Spencer Cabery. “Philipp probably belonged at a higher level this season, but came to South Carolina with a great attitude and worked hard every day in practice. He will be missed.”
It was in the ECHL board, but too important not to ignore. Stingrays leading scorer Trent Campbell arrested for grand theft auto, stealing a cab in Naples.
Hershey has won 7 straight games and Chris Bourque is quietly the league leader in points with 26-62-88. Should be well on his way to a 100 point season
On another note: the Norfolk Admirals, Tampa Bay's farm team, have won 21 straight games

On track for 98 at this point. Aucoin still sitting in third in the points race, and just lost 2nd place this week. He is sitting at 70 points in 43 games. It would have been interesting if Hershey didn't get hit so hard by the injury bug. They seem to have figured things out lately, but not enough at this point.
Oh yeah, East with 4 teams in the playoffs at this point.
Nice to see the leadership and contributions on the scoreboard from Kane (1g/3a/+1) and Potulny (3g/1a/+2) with all the Bears out due to injury and call-ups. Hershey came back from being down 5-2 and then lost in a 13 round shootout. link to game summary; Schilling played his first pro game. Billy Ryan scored his first AHL goal of his career.
Injured: Mink, Hanson, Micflikier, McNeill
NHL Call-up: Holtby, Aucoin, Eakin and Orlov
Note, Eakin was on the Caps roster as a scratch last night so all indications are that he was a non-emergency recall (that would be 3 of 4 allowed with the other 2 Orlov and Aucoin.) Pretty much means Eakin is up with the Caps until the Caps season is over, IMO.
Hershey has 6 games remaining in the regular season through April 15, 2012 (two weekends of Fri-Sun three in three.) Playoffs start after that time. Hershey's playoff spot is secured, working on securing home ice for first round with remaining games.
SC’s playoff first round is a best of 5 vs Gwinnett: 4/3, 4/4, 4/6, 4/8, 4/9
Hershey is playing with ATO goalie Tendler as the back-up, with SC having Machesney back from injury, and Sauer as the back-up goalie. Machesney is under HBH contract, but I assume that Machesney will stay in SC for the first round playoff series. Obviously, if SC’s season ends, Machesney will be recalled to be Sabourin’s back-up. Hopefully, SC wins the first-round series. If that happens, then it will be interesting to see what happens in terms of Hershey and a back-up heading into the playoffs as sounds/looks like Vokoun won't be back by that time, if at all this season.
OT: a Stingrays poster pointed out that Paquette was moved again a few weeks ago (March 8). Finished the season playing for ECHL Chicago Express, missed the ECHL playoffs, contributed quite a bit on the scoreboard after the swap from Utah.
sk8, have you heard any info on the possible returns of mcflicker, mink, hanson, and mcneil? I have tried to find information and havent seen anything lately. Those for additions along with orlov, aucoin, and eakin will make the bears a very scary team to play in the playoffs.
On another note, who sits on defense if Orlov returns for the first round playoff series?
Here would be my ideal defense:
Marshall-Collins
Kundratek-Brouillet
McNeil-Orlov
Wellar and Schilling as scratches
McNeil would probably be given a short leash. The games he played in recently he hasn't looked to good and Schilling looked very good in his first pro game on Sunday night
Leone had an update today with some injured player updates: link
Also, as expected the balancing act for now of leaving Machesney with SC as they are in the playoff series.
No, if healthy, I don't expect McNeill to be the scratch on D (and based on your post, you don't either to start) and I don't think one game (which I didn't see) is enough to give Schilling the start over a regular, if all are healthy. Issue is how healthy is McNeill even with skating today. OT: Brouillette has been a quietly effective player for the Bears this season.

Yeah I wasn't saying Schilling would get the jersey over McNeil, I was just commenting on the quality game he played and he was very noticeable.
It will be a tough call for French on who to scratch if Orlov returns, but I would expect it would unfortunately be Wellar or Brouillette
OT: It doesn't sound as if the injured players are coming along as expected which is not good. Hopefully these guys just rest until the playoffs because a lot of them have been banged up for most of the year
I hadn't spoken to anyone yet about how Schilling looked on Sunday so good to hear. Thanks.
At first he looked nervous and out of position but that was expected for only having a short period to adjust. Once the game moved along he became one of the better defensemen on the ice and Mann increased his ice time significantly
The only thing I've heard about any of the "recent" injuries was that Hanson was cut on the arm by a skate. McNeill tweeked a shoulder and took a puck to the head in the couple games prior to being scratched.

I took the question to be about timeline for return(s). Yes, Hanson had surgery. Leone has had several updates about his injury, the one we know the most about from publicly available information.
From what I saw, McNeill got hit in the forehead with a puck. He started to come off the ice, then circled back around and stayed out for the rest of the shift in the first period of the game against Charlotte on Saturday, 3/24. He went to the locker room after that shift and didn't return to that game. Leone's report today: "Graham Mink and Patrick McNeill skated for the first 18 minutes in non-contact jerseys." Also, "Jacob Micflikier remained out of practice. And, French said, Christian Hanson has been ruled out for the rest of the regular season."
Ok, I swear someone edited their post after I posted mine. I remember someone saying Schilling playing close to what the scouting stuff said, and thinking that was weird considering he played opposite of what I read. He was jumping up in the play, taking a couple shots and playing a more positional/stick defense type game. He was playing a lot of minutes from the beginning of the game.
I'm going to be in Hershey on Saturday 4/21 and Sunday 4/22.
What would you guys guess the odds of there being a Bears home game one of those two days is?
Hard to say at this point. Bears are in 5th but 1 game in hand and only 2 points behind WBS for 4th. I would think the chances are better if Bears end up in 5th, but I'm assuming the AHL starts the PO by the 18th.

Last day there is an AHL regular season game is Sunday, 4/15, so like others I assume the playoffs will start that Thursday or Friday and a Hershey home game that weekend will likely depend on whether they get home ice advantage or not. Yes, first round is best of 5 this season.
I was feeling pretty good about 5th overall, but we play Syracuse tonight (on a 12-2-1-1 run since March 12th) with no better than Machesney in net. If we lose tonight, then Connecticut could be only 3 points back by tomorrow when we play them (we will have Sabourin back for that one). Could be a very important trip to New England next weekend.

Lets see, Bridgeport, WilkesBarre? Who cares?? Why does this mean anything???? Personallly, I would rather we play Bridgeport.
