Shoe grin. Shoe grin. I think with the success of our checking line, I hope we'd give another prototypical checking line candidate in the organization a look before the year is up. Put him in Beagle's spot. Eakin got a good look, let's try the big swede soon. Keep him motivated, and let him have a look at what he is going to be up against when pressed into duty. If even one game, I like to get anyone that are potential callups, time early in the year.
The 9 game limit is only for guys who can still be sent back to the CHL. Eakin's on the first year of his entry level contract no matter what they do.
41 does have an impact on Eakin, though. If he plays more than half an NHL season, it eats the first year on his UFA clock. I suspect that McPhee attempts to avoid that.

40 GP counts as an accrued season but that won't speed anything up in Eakin's case (under the current CBA anyway). He's set to hit UFA at 27 regardless.
Players aren't eligible for arbitration right after their entry-level deal expires.
Grubauer and the Stingrays won last night and today against Gwinnett. Grubauer lost the shutout today late in the third period on a PPG against, but while he didn't add a second shutout to his record, he did bring his overall win/loss record to 8-2 (includes one shootout loss).
One clarification regarding the discussion about Eakin; technically, he was (and still is) eligible to return to the WHL as an overager this season, but as others have noted due to his birthdate, he's not considered a teenager for the NHL CBA slide rule so the 10GP threshold doesn't apply in his case.
That was freaking awesome. I love Holtby! Dude has such a swagger/cockiness about him that I think will be great for him in the NHL. I really want to see him called up soon. Neuvy and Vokey both play lousy when they aren't allowed to get into a groove. This one day, the other the next isn't working.
ScottStuccio: Also Mattias Sjogren not with team... deciding whether to return to homeland Sweden.
kcarrera: #Caps spokesman confirms Sjogren is contemplating a return to Sweden. No decision made yet. He is not on the road w/ Bears.
HockeyAgentDad: Sjogen returns to Swe. Wash promised he would not be sent to AHL for more than a few games bfore signing. Clear now that was not accurate.
Mattias Sjögren back in Färjestad
Here is the next return to Swedish hockey.
Mattias Sjögren, 24, poked from the Washington Capitals and ended up in the Farm Team.
Now he leaves North America - and return to Farjestad.
- Yes, Mattias go home to Farjestad, says agent John Finn Power.
The trend continues - the Swedish players flowing from North America to turn back to the top division.
To Färjestad earlier this season have been interested in getting home Mattias Sjögren, 24, is no secret. Two weeks ago the Washington Capitals, however, that you want to bet on him, and it looked like he would be left out the season.
The agent confirms
But it will not. Sjogren's American agent, Ritch Winter confirms on Twitter that the center back home to Sweden.
- Sjogren return to Sweden. Washington promised that he would not be sent down to the AHL for more than a couple of games before he designed. Now it is clear that it was not true, writes Winter on his Twitter.
Sportbladet can reveal that there will be a return to Farjestad.
Sjogren came to Färjestad from Rögle before last year's season - and was a success. Färjestad won national championships and Sjogren impressed so much that he wrote a cantata gold contract with the Washington Capitals.
Uses clause
But instead of playing in the NHL, he has only been playing in the minor league AHL and now chooses to use a clause in Sjögren's contract - a clause which means that he is free to leave America if he would not take place in the NHL.
Now he returns to a Färjestad who have found a form after a shaky start.
When Fredrik Sjostrom left the club for Frölunda two weeks ago, confirmed the VPK that were interested in Mats Zuccarello and Mattias Sjögren.
Zuccarello was stopped from moving to the New York Rangers - but instead succeeds Färjestad thus recruiting Sjogren.
On Wednesday morning also confirmed Sjogren's Swedish agent transition.
- Yes, Mattias go home to Farjestad. He had an out in his contract and he has now chosen to use it. He goes home today, if there are any flights that fit, writes John is power in a text message to Sportbladet.
Footnote: Färjestad confirmed the transition in a press release 8:52 on Wednesday morning.
- We are delighted to Sjogren returns us, he is a solid player who plays well in both directions, said Färjestads sports manager Thomas Rundqvist.
