Why? Because they waived him?

He didn't outplay anybody during training camp. Should they have just given him a place he didn't earn?

What is Brule's cap hit? If it is anything under 2 million/ yr, I wouldn't mind Leafs taking a shot on him, he could turn out to be a good pick up.

Why? Is it the Oil's fault that some Bantam players have better hockey sense than Brule? The guy is all world skills with a 10 cent mind for the game. The Oil gave him a shot, rewarded him financially when he did put forth a consistent effort (offensively anyway), and dropped him when he proved he couldn't duplicate it.

I hope he gets picked up too, but he will never amount to more than a bang and crash energy guy with a lethal shot/release that will be a total defensive liability. Pair him with 2 defensive minded vets and he might carve out a career in that role.

Why you blame the Oil on this one is beyond me.

I liked Brule, Anaheim should pick him up with their bottom 6 depth or he'd look good in a Jets jersey.

I hope Phoenix picks him up. Decent fill in for Turris for the season.

I'd be really surprised if he didn't get picked up.

He showed some potential a couple of years ago, but was held back by health issues last year.

It's hard to say whether he's a bust or not. He's not the player he was supposed to be, but he's still a good bottom 6er. Bust? maybe not. Dissapointment? Definitely

I'd take a shot on Brule in NY even. We're kinda loaded on the bottom-six, but I just like him and think he could do well. He still has never been healthy and gotten a good opportunity. I think he could, as others have said, be a good guy for a team like the Wings to reclaim. A Cleary-esque potential like someone said. Hope Brule finds a home and gets at least one more chance.

Hmmmm, don't know why we wouldn't.
Not sure if you were being sarcastic or agreeing... but out of all those C, I only see Spezza and Zibanejad worth raving about. Brûlé could battle the rest... worth taking a chance I say.

That poor guys career was mishandled since day 1. Let this be a lesson to all prospects, don't get drafted by CBJ.

Guess that means Lander sticks in the NHL. WOW. Wonder if he plays more minutes than Belanger by the end of the year. I think he's got more offense than Belanger and I bet he's got better conditioning too.

Yeah i'm with you, i was mad when they resigned him. They already have VandeVelde and Kyntar for that role. And that's a minor league role i'm talking about.

He's mostly been a RW in the NHL.

I think being put on waivers by the worst team in the NHL the last 2 seasons says it all. Of course, not all of it was in his control; rushed to the NHL, bad injuries and unable to find his role in the NHL. I think it's a shame but there is still time for him to salvage a career if he can learn to play in the bottom 6.

Just shows how hard it is to make it in the NHL, not matter where you are drafted. There is just so many things that need to go right.

To any team/fans wanting to claim Brule:

Please don't.

First of all, it rewards Tambellini's stupid decision-making, and worse yet, it encourages GM incompetence in the league in handing out overpriced contracts for unproven players and drives the market value of players up.

Secondly, Brule, while a great guy and a big-time charitable contributor in the community, doesn't have the mental make-up to be successful. He dealt with issues in Columbus, and then again in Edmonton last year. If thinks aren't rosy for him, he can't cope. Anybody who's read "Moneyball," there's a great deal of similarity between Billy Beane as a player and Gilbert Brule as a player. All the talent in the world, but way too many problems with thinking and dealing with the difficult psychological demands of a tough industry.
