Smyth is gonna get first unit pp time and will be playing with offensive linemates.
Horcoff ........... .. I guess he could hit the 50 pt mark .. cant whiff em all

I don't know, I think they might go with Hall - RNH - Eberle as one unit, leaving everyone else on the other unit.

I know everyone hates the umbrella, but I wouldn't mind seeing:

---------Whitney
Hall------------------Omark
RNH-----Eberle

as one unit, with Smyth, Horcoff, Paajarvi, and Hemsky on the other unit. Too many talented forwards that should be getting PP time.

I'd also like to see Belanger on the point on one of the lines, as he's good for faceoffs. I think they tried that in the last game he played. I wouldn't be surprised to see 5 forwards out there at some point this year.

the unit with Smyth and Hemsky would in this case be the first unit.

Does anyone know off hand when team rosters need to be set for the start of the season? I'm just wondering when we can expect a few more guys getting put on waivers.

Whatever, I suppose we cant have enough veteran presence and toughnes.

I still don't think Petrell's is here to compete with Eager and Hordichuk. Their job is to stick up for teammates and provide a little deterrence. Petrell here for his PK'ing, which really none of the other wingers bring to the table.

If I was Jones, I'd be looking over my shoulder with Petrell here and Hartikainen not far behind. (Not to mention Pitlick and Hamilton also in OKC)

Hall-Gagner/RNH-Eberle
Smyth-Horcoff-Hemsky
Paajarvi-Lander-Omark
Eager-Belanger-Petrell

Say what you will about the defence, but that's a damn fine forward core. If the team can get some above average goal tending from Dubnyk or even Khabibulin, or against all odds the defence holds up, the offence might be enough to keep us in or winning games until Smid and Whitney are back.

Jones has been really good in his last couple of preseason games, and he seems to still be getting a bunch of scoring chances. He's impressed me, looking forward to watching him this season.

We'll see, Hall and Eberle (not to mention RNH) might be a better offensive tandem before the season's out. If Hall's scoring 30+ goals this year, he'll be on the top PP unit, and if he works better with Eberle than Hemsky, then Hemsky's not on the top PP unit anymore.

It's nothing against Jones, but more so who he's competing with: I'd take Omark, MPS, one of Eager/Hordichuk, and Petrell before him.

I think Jones is a much better hockey player than Eager/Hordichuk amd Petrell.

I didnt really mean it in a way where they play the same role. More or less that when we play a team with a goon or a divisional rival we dont want to get bullied we dress Eager/Hordichuk and when the opposition doesnt really have any one goon we can dress Petrell.

I just dont see him taking Jones' spot yet, I think he has the 4th line wing spot easily locked up for now (and deservedly so).

I do agree, our forward group is shaping up nicely, great balance. I think Lander goes down when Gagner comes back though.

It's time to convert Paajarvi back to defense.

I'm only half-joking.

Hopefully Whitney and/or Smid will be ready for opening night. Once we're healthy, this is what I want to see for lines:

Smyth - Horcoff - Hemsky
Hall - Gagner - Eberle
Paajarvi - Belanger - Omark
Eager - Lander - Jones

Whitney - Petry
Smid - Gilbert
Barker - Peckham

Here's a question that I'm not sure where to post it, so I'll try to frame it for this particulat thread.

Considering all the players that have been sent to OKC so far, who is in THEIR starting lineup? And where the heck do all the other players end up? There seems to be allot of people on the farm at the moment. Seems a bit "overstocked" to me.

Anyone?

As for forwards, Horcoff is going to get 1st line minutes guaranteed at least until Gagner comes back (and unless Gags really impresses...after that too). RNH is not going to see the other team's first line. He will get 2nd line minutes. Who in their right mind would line RNH up against the likes of Richards, Thornton, etc??

The lines (to start the year) will be:

Hall Horcoff Eberle
Smyth RNH Hemsky
PRV Belanger Jones
Petrell (Hords) Lander Omark

Defense is in trouble to start out the year. I assume the starting pairings will be:

Gilbert Peckham
Barker Petry
Sutton Chorney

but that is just a wild guess based on the "limited resources"

The first pick in the June draft centred a line at practice on Monday with 2010 first-overall pick Taylor Hall and veteran winger Ales Hemsky.

Leaving Smyth with Horcoff and Eberle? Don't like that. I wouldn't mind Omark with Horcoff and Smyth though. I think Omark and Smyth would compliment each other extremely well.

I like this but only thing I would change is Petry and Gilbert . Gilbert plays his best game with Whitney Imo

In case anyone missed it Gregor tweeted today that the Oilers are likely placing Whitney and Gagner on the IR on Wednesday and they must remain there for one week. Which tells me that Whitney will sit out the season opener but will likely play in the 2nd game.

Also he cleared up that Sutton didn't practice today because he took a couple days off to be with his wife and kid and is expected to meet up with the team in Jasper.

So for opening day line-ups I'd say it's safe to leave Whitney off.
