I've got no problem driving him to work.

19 I believe.

Is there any negative to this signing if he goes to junior after 9 games?

From my understanding of the process no. He would still have three years on his ELC, and no years used on his RFA or UFA. It looks pretty risk free from where I sit, he at least gets a feel for the bigs and if he looks really good he may stick...

Costs TN 3 weeks worth on Scheifele NHL salary and keeps another player in the minors...so no real negatives, no.

Right now we are at 22 players (Aebischer and Bodie remain unsigned; Maxwell, McArdle, and Gagnon are injured). Depends on those injuries and signings. Aebischer has a chance of heading to St. John's and if Maxwell and Bodie are on the roster by the start of the season I would bet on Meech being sent back. McArdle and Gagnon will head to St. John's as soon as they are healthy.

So happy that we are now at the point where we are discussing the possibility of his staying this season past a 9 game look. For some perspective, here are the reactions from this board when he was initially drafted....

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=932785&page=6

The reactions are hilarious at times.
Nice jaunt down memory lane, Gumper. Can we give props to "jazznik" from Manchester, UK. He was the first poster in that thread who noted that Scheifele was a good pick with "serious potential". I won't recite the initial reactions of others...

Well I was at the draft so no posted record but I can sure tell you my first reaction...

"WHO THE **** IS THAT!?!"

The section went dead. But we recovered in a few seconds and had a good "Welcome Mark" chant going....of course this was after 10 solid minutes of "We Want Sean" chant lol

EDIT: Note I am for sure a converted Scheifele fan, just it was initially very shocking. I'll admit that he is one guy that had slipped through the crack and I knew nothing about going into the draft, I am usually very familiar with the top 45 or so.

I was out of the country when the draft was on, so I couldn't show my own ignorance about Scheifele or other prospects. But I've been around long enough to realize that the GMs and scouts know more about this stuff than me and most of the fans (and media pundits). They still make mistakes, but mistakes are unavoidable when you are drafting 18 year olds. But the Jets seem to have pegged this guy as having a great attitude, and that is a good start.

It?s clear Scheifele has earned the other players? respect. When Noel announced in the dressing room that the club had signed him, the players let out a loud cheer.

Jets Mark Scheifele considering wearing # 7, 21 or 55 but not number 10. The number of his Junior coach Jets legend Dale Hawerchuk.

I've said all along that # 7 would look good. FWIW, 21 wouldn't be bad either. That's my hockey number

I've heard wearing #7 leads one to leave the scene of an accident.
