With Nick Johnson being claimed by the Wild, and the lack of depth at Left Wing in WBS. Should Shero put in a waiver claim for Chris Bourque if we can send him to WBS without him having to clear waivers?

My vote - YES!

Simple answer, they can't send him to WBS. That's how he left the organization last time, we waive him and the organization who originally owns him gets first priority and sends him to their AHL affiliate.

Unless I completely misunderstand how it works, the Pens can't claim him and then send him to WBS. They'll have to keep Bourque on the NHL squad. If they attempt to send him to WBS, he has to pass through waivers again with Washington having first crack at re-acquiring him.

So unless you want Bourque on our NHL squad, why the heck would you want him claimed?

I thought we were able to claim him and send him down if we chose to. When we claimed him last time we kept him, but I thought that was because Shero wanted to give him a shot, I didn't know he would have to pass thriugh waivers again.

I guess /thread

I think he would have to clear waivers if he went to the Baby-Pens and to be honest even with Johnson gone there isn't much space. Especially for a guy who stands no chance of ever being a NHL player.

Wild claimed him off waivers today.

Should get an NHL oppurtunity there.

I thought he was playing in Russia? He was HORRIBLE during his 20 or so games on the Pens. He is basically Chris Conner 2.0 except not as hard working. First Luca Caputi, now Chris Bourque! What will you all do if Angelo "steal of the draft" Espisito becomes available? I heard Erik Christiansen wants to come back. But only if Adam Hall declines an offer. Maybe we can lure Pesonen back to North America while we are considering Chris Bourque.

I hope the OP was joking at the suggestion of signing Bourque. He wouldnt even be in the NHL if his dad was not one of the best players of all time.

That is a insult to Chris Conner who is a NHL player at this point.

At best he is a fringe NHLer, otherwise he wouldn't have signed a two-way deal.

I wasn't joking at the time. I don't want him in Pittsburgh, I would have wanted him in Wilkes Barre, that can't be done so no I don't want him now, he's a terrible NHL player but a beast in the AHL.

Wrong.. He's definitely an AHL'er, unless he is under the mancrush tutelage of Danny Bylsma.

Conner is a fringe/depth player.

Bourque would have to sell his soul to the Devil to even be that, though.

The couple Detroit games I've seen...Conner has been pretty decent.

It was never about hockey for him as much as it was about him being able to take the pounding. He wore down so quickly.

those dang NHL videogames always got people's understanding of waivers all messed up, including myself for a while.

2-way contracts don't necessarily mean they don't have to go through waivers and you can't just claim someone and immediately put him in the AHL...

He was saying he signed a 2-way because the Wings obviously didn't think he'd be an NHL regular.
