I say we ship EC's ass out the door along with Avery's (unfortunately) and claim Betts off waivers. Guy is a penalty killing machine and is a good all around 3rd/4th liner. I know our need right now is a defenseman possibly, but I think we should claim Betts. He has a cap hit of 700K. Thoughts?

I watch a lot of Flyers' games since I get their network in my area and Betts wasn't that bad the past couple years... yea he's not as durable, but he's still a very dependable defensive forward... our D will need all the help it can get if Staal LTIR.
On a personal note, I was sick to my stomach after the Brashear incident and when he was signed instead of Betts.
All I know is whenever we played the Flyers, I always heard Betts' name and he was always a factor. He would be a much better fill in than EC imo. I always liked the guy, why not bring him back...

FWIW, so was Zherdev (when he was with Philthy) & as much as I loved him when he was here - I don't see anyone clamoring to sign him. It's only natural for ex-players of a team to want to "stick it" to their old club.
Give me a year with Barbara Underhill and a year in the ECHL learning positioning. Sign me for league minimum. I will stay in my own end and throw my body in front of any shot. I won't even attempt offense, so then no one can make fun of the mini-boulders I have for hands. I will be cheaper than Betts.
Please give me a break. The Rangers do just fine killing penalties and don't need another 4th liner--especially one as slow as Betts is now. Should have waived Avery over the weekend and kept Weise.
And it's getting really tiring to listen to the drumbeat for waiver wire pickups--the organization finally has enough depth to fill the supporting players positions--especially at forward--yet the grass is always greener on the waiver wire.
EC's shootout abilities are way more valuable than anything Blair Betts can bring to the table. It's good to have this much depth. It's a good sign that there are players with value that we have to let go because there's no room.
I don't think this team is big into nostalgia selections. (Rucinsky and Kovalev excluded)
Otherwise they would've put a bid in for Jagr.
We have a lot of good PK guys on this team now. They willingly let Betts go, can't see why with the progression of Boyle they'd be so dissapointed by their decision that they would try to rectify it by bringing him back now.

Well, it didn't seem to take long for a snide comment to emerge.
I'm always amazed by the phenomenon on this board to turn on players once they leave the team, discrediting what they've done and disparaging their abilities. Betts was an absolute steal for the NYR. He was acquired for next to nothing, played for peanuts during most of his time here, and ended up doing his job effectively and, at times, wonderfully. Now, he's a stone-handed wash up who doesn't have a chance at cracking our Gold Medal caliber lineup. Look, I don't think he should be claimed off waivers either, but not because he's no longer NHL caliber; it's because center depth is not a concern right now, and available cap space should go towards a D.
Sorry StepanUp, didn't mean to pick on you, I'm just puzzled as to why we turn on the guys who leave the team (many times involuntarily).
No reason to get Betts. We're talking about the 13th forward position and people are acting like he'd be playing significant minutes game in and game out
No, he'd be sitting most of the time. The only player I'd consider sitting him for is Rupp and I like the other things Rupp brings.
So no, big pass. Be realistic and think about the roster situation
