Looks like he's signed
http://twitter.com/#!/TSNBobMcKenzie...17277567168512

Guess this means 9 game tryout? Hopefully just to give him a taste and let him see what the NHL is like before he gets sent back.

What a coincidence...just under the Bobby Mac wire, haha.

Looks like it...Strome had to be signed by five if the Isles wanted him to start the season- so yes, he will be getting games.

Can't see them giving games to Strome and not Kabanov...

Can one of the roster specialists out there confirm that with the Nino and Gillies IR placements that it is possible for both Strome and Kabanov to start the year with the Isles?

Talking nine or less games here...

I would guess Islanders wanted to lock the kid up with a deal before they send him back to juniors shortly. I really doubt Strome plays any games in NHL this year!

I cant see him getting NHL action this year...Mayby they gave it to him for working hard and showing thier commitment to him...Also gives him for drive to become better and work harder when he goes back to Niagra

I think they just signed him for the sake of signing him. Strome was OK in the preseason, but he didn't have a Schiefele type of preseason. He still needs to put on some weight and muscle.

I don't see him playing nor do i see Kabanov playing, i think they still need to cut 6 players by tomorrow and figure that Strome and Kabanov will be two of them

May they both go out there and conquer like warriors... Though I am sure they will be sent back after 9 games but if they play great and can go toe to toe with everyone else then keep them up here. Not everyone is Josh Bailey

+1 on that. Not everyone is going to suffer from getting rushed. I don't even think Bailey suffered from it. He's just not that good.

Hey, we're 1 for 12 on first picks....I like our odds!

Hope he enjoys his nine games and we have management that has learned something. If he has the size for the NHL, we'll see, but the definition of insanity is to......?

I'd rather be overcautious than gamble on the only other top flight talent we've drafted the past twelve years aside from Tavares.

"Right now, we haven't made plans regarding the nine games, or how long he'll be part of this team," Snow said. "I think the silver lining in keeping him around will be the experience he gets. He'll live day-by-day in the locker room, and see what it's like to be a pro. This will be a good experience. " Garth Snow

http://espn.go.com/new-york/nhl/stor...hree-year-deal

That quote makes it sound like Strome is sticking.

Don't know whether or not he is ready to play even one game. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. If he's not, then like Snow seems to be implying, he can just skate with the team in practice, hang out with the guys, watch from the press box, learn what it is like to go on the road at the NHL level, etc. Just let him learn from those kinds of experiences.

I hope Kabanov gets games over him if they are going the 9 game route. KK looked much more NHL ready to play the wing and work the boards and corners. He really looked like he had a pro game that was blooming. Strome while awesome in his own right still looked like a kid out there.

I'm glad both Strome and Kabanov are still around and that the team thinks highly enough of them to keep them here this long. If they get in a game or two or nine then great for them and their future, they go back to junior and get a better idea of what is required at the NHL level.

I don't think this team is deep enough or talented enough to dress players like this and not DECREASE their chances of winning. If the goal is to make the playoffs THIS YEAR, then Strome and Kabanov shouldn't play - they simply aren't ready.

I'm not sure what Garth/Cappy would have seen in practice or the preseason games to suggest these guys are able to make the team better THIS YEAR, but we'll see what happens.

I like Strome a lot, he reminds me of Denis Savard with a little less flash and more fire, which is a good thing. Kabanov has clearly matured physically and seems more serious about his game, that's a great sign.

But let's not forget, points in October are as important as points in March, if not more.

The reality is, Roston, Pandolfo, Reasoner, Staois help the NYI more than Strome, Kabanov, Niederreiter, deHaan will - at this stage anyway.

I wish the NHL players were better so this isn't debatable - but we are where we are. No looking back now.

This is so utterly pointless.

Not only does he not deserve this contract, but they're wasting the free 9 games on him. Give him the 9 games next year & then make the determination if he should say. If he isn't ready next year (which he very well may not be) then you send him to Bridgeport for a year.

I'll be very disappointed if they give him his 9 games this year. Ditto on Kabanov. Neither one of them are remotely ready.

And if for some strange reason their plan is to have him in the press box all year & just practice with the team, then I want Garth Snow fired immediately. I like Snow, I like him a lot, but essentially wasting a year of development on this kid is criminal.

SEND HIM DOWN NOW. Let him dominate the OHL, let him be a huge part of Team Canada at the WJCs. Don't screw around with this kid.

Could you overreact any more? Jesus, they haven't even decided if the kid is going to play any games, just that he will stick around the team, and hang out in the locker room until Nino is off IR.
