Avery vs Christensen

The final decision with the forwards. It's like the X-factor final.

Who makes it ?

Avery. With Richards, Zucc, and Wolski, I don't think we need Christensen's SO skill. Avery brings more of the rest of the game of hockey to the table.

EC may have the skill, but he's never put it together.

Went with EC (which will probably make me unpopular....), but with Boyle, Rupp, Prust and a host of Pack call ups they don't need a guy with jam/grit/whatever you want to call it. If we need to replace a scorer however, EC makes more sense.

I'm not actually that fussed though, so it ,mainly comes down to cap hit which EC wins comfortably

Just posted this to another thread:

Keep Avery. If/when WW disappoints, could see Avery in that spot (yes, for real) or Boyle moved there with Rupp centering a fourth line with Avery and Prust.

I really can't decide. I like EC more than Avery as a person, but to me their benefits and costs are even.

What it comes down to I guess is who is conducive to team cohesiveness in the locker room.

If I had to choose, Avery. He can do more - that is assuming Torts lets Avery be Avery. But I'm pretty underwhelmed with the choices. Bet Torts is too.

I don't think that Christensen has the stomach to play in the NHL. He's the stereotypical soft European.

Avery is an enigma. He's the smart kid in school that can't behave.

Basically my sentimenrs as well.

Christensen has the odd dominant performance once in a while...but Avery is much more consistent; and that's saying something.

Christensen is a Canadian.

And I feel like that is a bit of a kick in the teeth to hard working NHLers like Lidstrom, Holmstrom, and Kurri.

While I understand that Avery does more than just score, he's certainly not a 'defensive forward', so I'd say that the fact EC has 2 less points than Avery in 30 less games over the past two season says he is the more consistent of the two....

Either way I don't expect either of them to play much of a role this season or be on the team next season.

Well, technically Wolski is Polish. He was raised in Canada and speaks perfect English and everything, you wouldn't even know he was Polish, so I understand. But man, there must be something in their blood cuz Wolski is practically Canadian

Again, tell Holmstrom that Europeans are soft. See how that goes over.

Consistent doesn't mean racking up points. Consistent is doing YOUR JOB every night. Avery's job isn't to put up points. His job is to be Avery and he is much more consistent at showing up each night and working his ass off than EC is at anything... The only thing EC is more consistent at is getting married.

Agree to disagree, I though Avery was very inconsistent at being 'Avery' last season, which is why he's fighting for his spot now.

Oh yea, definitely. He was inconsistent last season at being Avery, I know. But so far what we've seen out of him in camp and pre-season, he is playing like the old Avery. He knows this is his contract year and is doing what it takes. I don't see any of that out of EC. You'd think he was Kovalchuk sitting on a 100 million dollar deal the way he's playing.

He's certainly had a good preseason. Like I said, at the end of the day I can't see either guy being more than a bit player throughout the season, which is why i want the extra cap space....

Avery has been 100x more noticeable than EC. He's been giving it his all every game so far.

Unless every game is guaranteed to go to a shootout, I pick Avery.

And even in the case of a shootout, we have Richards, Wolski, and Zuccarello. No need for Christensen on this team at all

EC. He has a better chance of scoring more points, more cap friendly, and won't get 200 penalty minutes (Not Avery's fault, the refs just hate him)
BRING THE HATE BABY!
