I don't much judge a team by it's fourth line but I think this year's is a step back

I really like it. I've always wanted Betts on our 4th line. It's going to be a lot better than Engvist

Don't get me wrong, i don't think Betts is the solution to our toughness/grit problem, but some posters were claiming yesterday that gauthier will not pick Betts because he was ok with this creampuffs team.

I suspect the same complaints about Enqvist, will also be applied to Betts after a few viewings.
Maybe my disappointment of Engqvist was too big so I don't mind Betts. As for fans enthusiasm related to Betts, I don't think anyone expects the best 4th liner, PKer Habs management could ever find. Betts does have the experience Engqvist is lacking. It's just better than yesterday.

Engqvist sent down to make room for Betts.

Palushaj and Schultz were sent down, too.

i couldn't be happier about this pickup. Hes got size (although he wont hit that much its good to have), experience, hes has great PK ability,he's a FO specialist, and best of all he doesn't take penalties. How many times have we had bottom 6 guys (example: metropolit, though i like him) who take terrible minor penalties at the worst of times? Glad we have a guy who will be disciplined and who will fit into JMs system well. Here's hoping we get to see Moen-Betts-White soon.

One season under 50%... at 49.3 since 07-08.

He usually is between 50.3% and 50.9%

Kills penalties. A LOT. And fairly well.

Really, he's a lot like Moen. I wonder if that implies that the Habs will be using a "defensive" line, built around Betts and Moen, to play ridiculously often in the defensive zone and free up another line (DD/Eller/Whoever?) to get softer minutes and lots of offensive time and rack up points.
I think that's the plan all along, we will have our own Niedermayer-Pahlsson-Moen line

And this will definetly help the less defensive line (if one is centered by Desharnais and without Eller)

I think that he has two things going for him as far as toughness and grit: he's quite big (6'3 210) and he's a respected veteran around the league. Besides those two factors, he won't add much physically. He can't fight and can barely hit due to his shoulders. But I doubt we'll ever see Someone beat down on him like what happened to Pyatt and Spacek last year. Moen-Betts-White (eventually) will be a 4th line that will not get pushed around, ever. And that's all that really matters, imo.

Over the past 4 years Betts has averaged about 50.3% in the faceoff circle. That's not very good, but compared to last year's numbers puts him first on the habs.

This must be like Christmas for Martin; a defensively responsible bottom with sound work ethic and leadership qualities.

Good pickup.

On opening night last year our 4th line was Pyatt-Boyd-Lapierre. At the end of the season it was Pyatt-White-Weber. I don't see how this year's line can be anything but an improvement.

I like this move. Gives us much needed depth. I for one, believe we'll see a 4th line of Darche-Betts-White, which could bring offence, defence and grit. I like.

What s nice too is that we can roll 4 lines and the 4 th line can play against anybody

So that gives us up front:

Cammy-Plekanec-Cole
Pacioretty-Gomez-Gionta
AK-Eller-Desharnais
Moen-Betts-White/Darche

We're definitely not small anymore, up front anyway. We got 7 big guys compared to 5 little guys. And each of those little guys are highly skilled.

I don't think anyone thinks he's Crosby.. and if he's bad at faceoffs it's still better than what we had
