I'd let him walk come July for D & C should they become available. Can't have two LWs on this roster, or Elias has to go. Something's gotta give, Jack Nicholson.
Mixed feelings about potential long-term ramifications of this, but that would be no different if Kovy were named captain. I just hope Zach wants the responsibility and the experience weighs favorably on his decision to stay.

elias is now a center... a perfectly decent 2nd line center.
i could honestly give a flip who the captain is of any team, but i really see no downside to this. if he does something uncaptain like/dogs it, take it away from him, if he leaves, oh well, give it to kovy and piss of a few people that just bought kovy jerseys with a's on them, if he stays, we're not in the awkward position of having someone else be captain. yay

I'm curious, what do you mean by long term ramifications?
I think Parise wanted the responsibility, and I think he can handle the responsibility. He knows it's his team, and the team is committed to him as the leader, regardless of Kovy's contract.
This pick makes sense for DeBoer too. He wants a guy that works hard, and if the whole team follows Parise's example, I think we will be successful.

I used to think that way too until Jamie Langenbrunner came along.
