One of Swedens best and finest goalkeepers in modern time, Stefan Liv, was confirmed dead in a plain crash earlier today.
He was traveling along with his teammates of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl to the premiere game of the KHL.
Of 45 people onboard only two survived the crash but suffered major injuries.
My thoughts go out to his family and loved ones and the families of his teammates.
Immediately when I heard the news that Lokomotiv had crashed I realised Liv was at risk of being dead. Such a horrible tragedy, all those players and their families and friends. The hockey world won't be the same the upcoming season.
Henrik Lundqvist was stunned to heard of the crash and asked reporters about a fellow Swedish goalie, Stefan Liv, who played with him on the national team in the World championships and Olympics. When told he was on the Yaroslavl roster but not confirmed dead, he put his hands to his face and said, "No, not Liv....I saw him this summer. He just got married."
I remember in a World Championship when he was gonna be our goaltender against Japan, and was asked what he knew about Japan, he replied "Uhh... I know it's to the right of China?"
My thoughts are obviously as well with Stefan (and all the other victims) families. I still can't believe that so many known players are just gone, it's so unheard of. Thanks for all the memories, Stefan.
