Yes.

But its getting to the point that he is the sexy underrated pick and therefore he is overrated.

I've seen him mentioned in the same sentence as Datsyuk, don't think he's underrated. He is what he is a 3rd line center with good defensive play.

What was the sentence? "Nielsen just got deked out of his jock by Datsyuk"?

It was:

"Anyone who puts Datsyuk and Nielsen in the same sentence should have some common sense knocked into them"

*knock knock*

"Who are you and why are you carrying clubs and torches?"

"We are from HFBoards and are coming to knock some common sense into you for using Datsyuk and Nielsen in the same sentence."

No, that dint really happen, but man if it did that would be sweet irony.

By HFBoards, probably not. By the general hockey public, definitely.

I have a feeling the sentence was along the lines of "Nielsen is a poor man's Datsyuk", which is about right.

And here it is.

I think he gets his credit, he's been hyped a fair bit around here, anything more isn't warranted

Us club and torchbearers would then have to knock sense into ourselves.

Best contract in the NHL from the team's perspective. He's an absolute bargain at 525k.

You just blew my mind. I'm in for a double beating cuz I myself did it twice.

It's like when someone says "Never say never !" and you're thinking "you just said it twice, dude".

Datsyuk makes 6.7 million per year, so Nielsen really is a poor man's Datsyuk.

The NHLPA does, apparently: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/alls...ated-player-2/.

(extra 'underrated'-points for Nielsen coming from CBC, like 98% of HFBoards, misspelling his name).

He WAS underrated, but this last season has opened some eyes. I think he's just about where he should be in most peoples eyes. Deceptively good offensively, but not great; will never be a goal scorer. Amazing defensively, though lacks the strength to push anyone off the puck but makes up for it with excellent positioning and stickwork. Overall the ideal 3C who with the right linemates (like now) can be a serviceable 2C on a good team, but on a cup contending team he must be on the 3rd line.

Any bold predictions for his production this season?

Am I being unrealistic if I suggest he can get 55 pts?

No. but expect ~40 of them to be assists. Grabner will be flying and Okposo fully recovered. This line has unreal chemistry.

I would think more along the lines of "homeless man whose only possession is his cardboard box's Datsyuk"

Nielsen has great value when considering his contract, but overall he's a very good 3rd line who is a borderline elite shutdown guy. Datsyuk is an elite shut down while being a legit 1st line player.

Another thing that makes Nielsen valuable is that he is one of the best all time in shootouts/breakaways. ***** and moan about the rules all you want but the fact is that those are valuable points. Nielsen also recently added another move to his patented backhand roof rob (the 5 hole snapper), so maybe his percentage will even go up.

Who would you call "a poor mans Datsyuk?" You pretty much are arguing semantics.
