I've followed Pavelec throughout his NHL career (mainly because of fantasy hockey) and I know he is going to be something special. Not Martin Brodeur or Patrick Roy special, but I think he will be in the race for the Vezina within the next few years as long as he stays healthy.

To have played 119 games in today's NHL as a 24 year old is pretty rare as most goaltenders are playing in the minors until they are in their mid 20's.

He should be a top 10 goaltender this year and just may help us make the playoffs.

For the Jets to be successful, Pavelec will have to improve on his numbers and I think he is poised to take the next step. A lot of his numbers will hopefully be a result of good coaching and smart team defense without the puck.

I think he's more than capable of putting a season like this together ....

GP - 64

W - 31

L - 22

OT - 10

G.A.A - 2.59

Sv % - .920

SO - 5

That would be good for 72 points in the standings. Now if Mason could win 10 of 18 games, the Jets would be in the playoffs conversation. Probably going to take 95 - 98 points to make the playoffs in the East.

If the Jets want to make the playoffs?
He probably needs to be the Vezina talk.

Kane scores 30 goals.
Pavelec in Vezina talk.
Dude, we can talk about winning the division if these things start happening.

Pavelec will have a good year if the Jets tighten up their overall team defense versus last season. He does not need a Vezina-level season for the Jets to make the playoffs; what he needs is to face fewer shots against each game and have the team in front of him score a few more this season at the same time. We don't need HasekV2.0 back there; what we need is a team that helps the goalie out rather than abandon him on a nightly basis.

If everyone plays to their potential that shouldn't be out of the question

He's gotta be great for us to make the playoffs. He's capable in my opinion, he just needs to be more consistent. All the tools are there IMO.

All the tools are not there.

Last year, he was not in shape. He didn't have his body in professional athlete condition. The Thrashers read him the riot act at seasons end and told him he'd better get serious about conditioning in the off-season.

I have no idea if he listened or not.

If not, it will be another season of failed potential for Pavs. Hopefully, he's stepped up his conditioning.

I think it's safe to say "all the tools are there", and more so than less, Pavelec just has to learn how to use them.

I think most fans and those around the league, media, etc.. will agree Pavelec has the tools and potential to be a respectable no. 1 goaltender in the NHL. What he does with the talent he's got, we'll find out.

What? Another failed season? Are you kidding me? This kid just turned 24 and is going into his 2nd season as a starter. Sure, his conditioning isn't great, but if you think for one second last year was a wasted year for him, you are severely mistaken.

Not to mention he also won bronze for Czech Republic in the World Championships and had one heck of a tournament.

At the very least, he'll need to have more wins than losses.

He's big, he's quick, his lateral movement and anticipation has improved tremendously, and his glove hand is phenomenal. I don't know what tools he lacks in your opinion, but you haven't listed any in this post.

Conditioning is something that can be worked on.

his problem has been consistency. he will be the best goalie in the NHL for a month and then be terrible for a month. if he can limit the bad stretches and improve against breakaways he could be one of the best.
