Official 2011 Preseason Thread

Finally, hockey is getting going again! I thought it was about time to create a thread for the Preseason. All posts regarding updates, new articles, injuries, roster moves and trades can posted in here. Also if anyone attends any of the practices or prospect games and has info they would like to shed on a prospect or player, please post your opinions in here.

Today our prospects are playing against San Jose in Penticton. I believe the Game starts @ 5pm and you can watch it live on flames.nhl.com.

Here are the projected line for the Flames against the Sharks:

Bouma - Wahl - Nemisz
Baertschi - Horak - Bancks
Holland - Reinhart - Howse
Patterson - Gal - Ferland

Brodie - Breen
Negrin - Jackson
Leach - Martin

Ortio

Yeah I am really excited to see how Bartschi and Brodie are going to do. I really hope Brodie takes that next step this year and I just want to see how Bartschi performs out there. Also it will be interesting to see how Wahl bounces back this season, he kinda slid down the depth charts with injuries last year and it would be great to see him re-establish himself.

I highly doubt it, but has any of your guys media coverage for tonight's game indicated what the Sharks will ice for a lineup tonight?

Coverage from the Sharks' website has been a little slow and it doesn't appear that they sent anyone up to cover the tourney. I found your guys' lines on the Calgary website, and I can find the Sharks full roster, but I have no idea who will actually play tonight for San Jose. Vancouver's site has a section for the tourney, but it's really more of a "Canucks day-by-day blog and oh yeah some other teams are playing too..."

So I'm hoping there's maybe been some newspaper coverage or a local blog or something in calgary that has more info on the game.

thanks.

and yay, hockey's finally back!

FYI,

Here's a link to an article of the Flames schedule of the preseason. Its breaks down all their practices, games and the roster going into camp.

As per Flames.com

http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?...id=DL|CGY|home

Quote:
CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames are set to open their 2011 training camp starting Friday, September 16th with fitness testing and medicals at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The first on-ice sessions are scheduled for Saturday, September 17th with Group A starting at 9:30 am and Group B hitting the ice at 11:15 am and Group C at 1:00 pm. All on ice sessions are open for viewing to the public.

The Flames will play six preseason games (4 home and 2 away) in preparation for the start of the 2011-12 season. The first game(s) will see the Flames take on the Vancouver Canucks in a two team / same day format on Tuesday, September 20th at the Scotiabank Saddledome and in Vancouver at Rogers Arena. Calgary opens up the 2011-12 regular season at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, October 8th.
I'm pretty excited to see what Paul Byron can bring.

It's preseason. There's no fourth line, there's no first line. Just lines.

Exactly... It speaks volumes that he is paired with Jokinen actually, who just so happens to be the best player in that entire grouping.

I find that line very intriguing to be honest, I hope to see it in action during the pre-season for at least one game.

Depending on where Nemisz's game is, a line of Nemisz, Jokinen and Bourque could be pretty good.

My question is this, Sutter has said that he likes to use Moss as a centre because he likes his size down the middle. Assuming Moss plays centre this season, does that mean that Morrison moves to wing?

Tangs Backlund Iggy
BMO Jokinen Bourque
Glencross Moss Stempniak
Hagman Stajan Jackman

If Morrison is healthy to start the season, and assuming no other trades are made, I think this could be a lineup we may see to start the season. I have to be honest, the one guy I am really looking forward to seeing is Stajan. We've heard how he has trained this offseason, I'm really curious to see where his game is at.

I don't know why Sutter likes Moss at center so much. I'm not even sure he does, all he did was try him there at times last season and the media was all like "Ooooooh coach sure likes Moss at center!".

TBH I hated Moss at centre. He didn't cover enough of the ice in our own end and the last thing this team needs is another centre who can't win a FO. At least that is how I remember it.

Do we really need Moss to play Center? worst comes to worst sure but we already have Backlund Jokinen Stajan, and Morrison returning.

I like David Moss anywhere.

I think it all depends if Backlund is ready to play on the top line at centre. After that question is answered, the other positions (Morrison, Moss, and Stajan especially) will fall into place.

Call me optimistic, but I think Jokinen is going to put up 65 points next season. He got 41 points in his final 48 games last season for a total of 54 points. But I think he has finally found a place on this team on the 2nd line and is comfortable, and he is in a contract year. He looks good and relaxed, I think he is going to have a really good season this year. Hopefully Bourque does as well.

And Sutter does like to use Moss as a centre for sure. I heard Feaster on the radio saying so himself. I'm partial to it, I think he does ok there. I think he would be an ideal 3rd line centre but we already have Stajan who is a better FO guy. So I'm fine with having Moss play wing as well.

Jokinen will reach 65 if he can rebuild chemistry like he did with Glencross and Moss.

I see no reason why he cant bounce back. He has underperformed for years.

I'm not sure about the lines, but here's a link to the rosters if that helps.
