An impressive win by the Gee Gees beating the Ravens 4-2 at Carleton. Ravens took exception to the solid goalkeeping of Ottawa rookie Russell Abbott who was hammered into the end boards by Carleton's Bakker which resulted in Bakker getting tossed from the game for his antics.

McGill were obvious favourites going into today's game against the Gee Gees but the garnet and grey were optimistic after yesterday's battle royal. Unfortunately Ottawa just didn't have an answer for McGill's speed and ended up taking 36 minutes in penalties trying to slow them down. McGill 3-Ottawa 0; 2 powerplay goals + 1 scored 5 seconds after the end to a penalty.

from saturday night....RMC 0 @ Ryerson 3. Video only gets the first 2 periods cause Ryersons video from the 3rd failed to upload. Only thing of note was a called back goal on RMC in the 3rd.
Kind of a sloppy game by both teams, but SFX were able to make the most of their chances. Nadeau started but left on his own midway thru the 1st after making an awkward save. Clark got the call for SFX and looked decent. DAL totally inept in getting out of their own zone.
Game Notes: McAvoy and Claffey both missing for SFX.
Ron Kelly has left DAL to concentrate on academics. He played in their 1st two games and has not played since.
How did Matt play? He must of looked funny with the green pads and red outfit? Does he have to grow a big red tail or is that optional?
Well he had the green pads and gloves with the new black uniform tonight instead of the normal road reds. Saturday it will be with the home whites. But yes, the green did clash a bit ...

All jokes aside, Matt was a great student at St. Thomas and it doesn't surprise me at all that he is getting his MBA at UNB. Lucky for UNB he was there.
This is actually Matt's third CIS team. He started off with the Ottawa Gee Gees, transferred and red shirted with UNB after one season. Mike Ouzas was recruited over Matt and he lost his spot. Came to STU instead, played behind Aaron Molnar his first season, had a lights out second season, and a very average third season at STU. Since graduating from STU he has played beer league rec. in Freddy.
Kind of a ho-hum game tonight at Acadia. 1st and 3rd periods were painful to watch without much flow. 2nd was entertaining with the Axemen scoring 3 times to put the game out of reach.
Dal missing several decent players (Vandall, Theberge, Daley), but that doesn't explain their goals against (-28). DAL has SMU twice, ACA, SFX, UNB and UPEI to close out the first half. They could be in dire straits if they can't keep the puck out.

I was thinking about that yesterday while checking out his stats. Can't be too many players who've suited up for 3 CIS teams in their careers.
Also didn't know he had red shirted at UNB, interesting tidbit...
Our issue is goal scoring. We hold teams and hold teams till late in the third and then get tired cause of lack of bodies. If it wasnt for Andrew Flemming and our strong defense, could be worse!

Flemming is an example of how stats can punish exceptional players on weaker teams. If he was even on a middle of the pack team he would be a league leader in goalie stats.
A terrible game for two periods until SMU started going hard to the net and scored 4 times in the 3rd. DAL is not very good. They lost their jump after SMU made the score 3-1 and quit outright after the next goal. I'm starting to think that there is a coaching issue here and the players won't play for Pete. There is every chance that they will be 9-2 on Saturday night.
Game notes: Vandall was in for DAl and Johnston was out; starting his suspension from his match penalty in the Acadia game Saturday. Nadeau was absent again.
O'Donnell played his first game for SMU after a pre-season injury.
Je ne comprend pas comment les Stingers gagnent contre McGill mais perdent tant contre Nipissing dans la Baie Nordique.
I don't understand how the Stingers win against McGill yet lose big against Nipissing here in the Bay.
En tout cas, j'ai hâte que les Lakers affrontent McGill ici.
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to the Lakers taking on McGill here.
It's a weird situation with Dalhousie, Pete has done an incredible job recruiting the past 3 years and rebuilding the tigers, on paper they have alot of talent, really on paper they should be a top 15 team in the country. So whats going on? Is it just injuries? its not so much that theyve lost 6 straight but the way theyve lost 6 straight theyve been pounded.
I understand Dalhousie is a hard school, but I dont remember in the past so many players missing games do to courses and academic reasons, specialy while they are short staffed with injuries.
Starting to wonder how Pete gets along with his players, cause was surprised when Lakehead let go of Pete cause he did an amazing job recruiting for them, so it must have been a coaching thing too
He was a terrible coach here by the time he left. He either had an awful game plan or had totally lost the locker room. All that we did was send a guy outside the opposing blue line and try to fire a 130 ft pass from our own end and hope that it would work. The hockey became terrible to watch and it was as if there was no coaching at all. Obviously he knows something about the game, so it's more likely that the players didn't want anything to do with him anymore.
On a side note, Lakehead lost Matt Caria to injury last night. As OT expired he decided to fire an off balance shot on goal, and apparently he got hit because the Guelph player was mad he shot it as time expired. I didn't see that he got hit from where I was sitting, but he's out with an ankle injury. That will be a huge loss if he's out for any extended period of time. Beljo is also out tonight due to suspension. I'm not feeling too good about our chance of winning tonight
I'm not gonna call any player out, but DAL has a couple of guys who just go through the motions most games. I agree that they have a decent team and should be better than their record. They have, arguably, one of the best players in the AUS, but ...???
I don't think the players like Pete which makes it difficult for him. I feel bad for Dave MacDonald and guys like Trevor Mackenzie who give an honest effort. Losing Nadeau doesn't help but they have all their injured guys back except Daley. (Theberge was in last night)
If you think (or know) that you have goaltending issues, then it is more important to play tighter in your own end rather than just blowing the zone every time going for the breakaway pass and leaving a 5-4 situation at home.
They have a chance at redemption this afternoon when they play UPEI.
I imagine it must be hard for Dal to find any kind of consistency/chemistry when you never know who is going to be in and out of the lineup for any given game.
Talk about parity.
3 of the 4 AUS games are decided by SO.
That is why we have the best conference in the CIS.
STU 6 STFX 5 (so)
STU hockey is back. They may not make the playoffs but they are a competitive team that can win on any given night. They ended up outshooting X when all was said and done. X is probably the better team but they just go outworked tonight.
First time seeing X live this season but it seems like they are missing something. They didn't lose that many players from last season so I am surprised by the sub par peformance so far. Perricone wasn't at fault for the loss but he certainly doesn't seem like the same goaltender who took them to the finals last year.
I took in the UNB - ACA game. Entertaining, trading goals and chances back and forth. Can't fault Davis for the SO loss; I've seen Beaton make that move against UdeM in exhibition. Mosher was steady for the Axemen and made several great saves to keep the game from getting out of hand when they were down 4-2.
Good for SMU to come back from 3-0 to get a point. Kudos to STU for their SO win against SFX. Kind of a Jeckyll and Hyde team, the X-Men. As Rob stated, they should be as good as last year, but aren't living up to expectations.
I see where DAL gave up six more in the afternoon tilt. I won't dump on them; they have enough on their plate. I watched some of that game on the web and noticed that Kewin and Gauthier did not play. Firlotte missed his second game. He took a two, a ten and a game on Wed night against SMU, so I imagine he would have missed one game via suspension. DAL only dressed 16 skaters this afternoon. Do they have more injuries?
