He was waived, not bought out. He lands as Wade Redden's room mate in my opinion.

He goes to the AHL or Europe. No one is going to pay him $4m to play for an NHL team. If a team picks him up, they will have to pay his full contract. NYR and Dallas pay half each right now. Unless I am wrong on this.

He has proven to be a negative impact to his teams. His negatives outweigh his positives.

Unless you are talking about after his contract. If so, he will not be landing in the NHL.

the whale.

sigh, the "old guard" of Sam Rosen's "next big things" of NY are slowly but surely leaving town. Prucha, Voros and now Avery! This is just too much

He'd fit in nicely with Vityaz Chekhov.

Doesn't Dallas still pay half his salary? If so retiring will cost him 4M

I believe, as things stand, Dallas is still paying half of his deal, and I think New York would be absolved if he was claimed straight off waivers. If he's claimed off re-entry waivers again, then I think Dallas continues paying the current half, and then it gets halved again with the Rangers paying half of what he currently is getting paid by them to play for someone else.

I may be completely wrong, but that's how I remember that getting explained once upon a time.

I'm expecting that he'll end up in Europe. If Avery isn't working in New York, the one place where he isn't reviled, it's hard to imagine he'd work on a Florida or Phoenix.

The Kings are probably the last team on earth picking him up.

His cap hit was too high for the Rangers. I wouldn't be surprised if they resigned him to a lower hit next summer. Maybe like 500-700k.

yeaaa...Kings had him once and that was enough. Brown and Avery dont get along at all plus we have no use for him as that we already have one of the best bottom 6's in the NHL.

Maybe this is Sather's way of trying to get Redden to walk away from his contract

Yeah, that's exactly right.

FWIW, I think he'll end up in Europe.

That would be horrible. Avery and Brown will never be in the same locker room again.
