Olden's NHL path goes through Erie

Brian Huddle put together this piece on Leafs prospect Sondre Olden, who joins the Erie Otters this year via the CHL's Import Draft. Olden talks about the reasoning behind his decision and what's to come for him.

Quote:
“[I came] just to learn the North American hockey style; it’s better hockey here,” said the six-foot-four Toronto Maple Leafs prospect. “If you want to make the jump to the NHL, you have to know how to play the game over here.”

So, how soon do you see Olden making an impact. He's also AHL eligible next season since he was drafted out of Europe and not the CHL.

I have high hopes for Olden. He's off to a good start with 2 goals in 3 games, It'd be nice if he could put up PPG numbers.

same, atm he is playing LW apparently, I don't know if this is true and mckegger at center. I was expecting the opposite roles for each other, as Mckegger was pegged best player in the LW and olden good for center lol

How many years of junior eligibility does he have left??

Its good to have him close so that they can watch him develop. And I'm sure the amateur scouts relay messages to management more often than what they could get in Sweden.

This kid has the tools to be an incredible talent. He's definitely boom or bust. Let's hope he's a boom pick

He can go back next year, but he'd take up both an import spot and an overager spot, if I remember correctly.

That's a lot to dedicate to a player and is typically rare to see in major junior. Erie might not go that route, but stranger things have happened.

I really like the idea of what this guy could bring if he develops far enough to be in our top six eventually. Definitely a player to pay attention to and root for IMO.

Olden and McKegg are in for a lonnnnng year. Erie is pegged to be last in the league which explains the bad +/- so far. I wish Olden was drafted by a good team so he could develop around better players.

He's willing to commit, and has a heck of a lot of talent. You can't expect more from him at this time.
