Gagner is entering his 5th NHL season and is only 1 year older than Jake Gardiner. He is actually younger than Matt Frattin. He definitely has a lot of untapped potential.

lol We'd be the smallest forward group in entire NHL (if were not already?)

To echo an earlier post ...

No, no, 21 year olds have no upside. If he was 30 people would say it might make sense if he was younger.

Although I don't really get how acquiring him makes sense.

We already have Connolly, Grabo, Bozak, Lombardi, Dupuis, Steckel as our center depth with Colborne in the minors.

Unless Bozak or Lombardi go the other way along with a defensemen, I don't see how it makes sense for us although Bozak is probably valuable to us with his ability to kill penalties and win faceoffs.

Maybe Burke is just inquiring with Connolly injured to see what the price is at. If Connolly is out for an extended period, he may have to make a move.
Id be ecstatic if we get Turris, another player with untapped potential and he could become something very special giving him good consistent timing .

I'd rather have Turris too. Gagner is the better player right now but Turris fits better with our team than Gagner.

I don't see the point of having Gagner if he won't play a top 6 role..he's just another Bozak type player. Turris can start off at the third line and if he really has any potential he can make it big with a change of scenery.

If something bigger is up with Connolly Burke might be forced to make a move, otherwise I don't see the need for Gagner.

I'm a Gagner fan, I don't think he's what we're looking for long-term though. A stop-gap solution maybe, but how many of those do we have now.

Your thinking is very shortsighted.

Connolly and Lombardi are both UFAs after next season.

Grabo is also a UFA after this season and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Burke let him walk. Grabo has played very well for us but he isn't a top 5 player on a good team and if he wants get paid like he is (5 million +) I highly Burke would give it to him.

You're insane. Grabo is the only dependable center we have and anchors the only dependable line. He isn't going anywhere unless we want a lottery pick.

What if he goes in a package for someone better?

Grabo + Schenn + 1st = ???

If I have learned anything about Burke these last few years, he uses the media mostly as a ploy.

IE: When Boston wasn't willing to give us what we wanted, Burke made it known he was starting to ask Kaberle for other teams..

Boston gives in. It's happened several times, in fact.

My guess is Gagner rumours help Phoenix move Turris.

Well in the meantime I'm sure Gagner will be thrilled playing on the 4th line until those three scenarios pan out.

Really interesting logic. Definitely something Burke would do. Nice one

Every player has a different development curve. There's no untapped potential with Gagner. He's entering his 5th nhl season and he's pretty much money for 15 goals 45 points. No more and no less

I REALLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYY do not want Gagner, this would be an awful acquisition. He's terrible on faceoffs, terrible defensively, not physical at all and easily outmuscled by basically anyone, and while reasonably talented offensively he's still no more than a decent #2 in terms of offense alone (and a terrible #2 in terms of everything else). Not a player who would be in the lineup of a good playoff team, which is what we're striving to become. He's not good enough in terms of his all around game to play on the top 6 of most playoff teams, and has none of the qualities you'd want in a bottom 6 player, he only provides value to bad teams who are so starved for offensive talent that they're willing to overlook his many faults. I'm guessing most of the people in favor of acquiring him rarely watch Edmonton play, and just look at his point totals and age. Living in Vancouver I see plenty of Oilers games, and IMO Gagner sucks.

I really hope you're right. I do not want Gagner at all, but am pretty interested in Turris.

Been saying it since day 1. TURRIS. He clearly does not like playing in the desert and just needs a change of scenary/opportunity. Yes, he hasn't proved much but their is just something special about this kid that hasn't been discovered yet. He could be a really special player.
