Going to miss him in Phoenix but for the most part he was in San Antonio. Best of luck to him, hopefully he will become a full time NHLer with Winnipeg.

If they wanted to trade him they'd first have to offer him to the other teams that put in waiver claims, but they wouldn't have to offer him to the original team [Phoenix].

Some times these guys pan out. I do remember when former 2nd rounder like Stefan Meyer, Adam Pineault, Bertram, Burki, Bois, Byers, Latendresse, Tallackson, Tim Brent, Mike Blunden, Ryan Stoa, and the like were considered big tome prospects with a lot of value.

The Coyotes are going downhill fast, but yay, a new MacLean for the New Jets, I really want them to make a line of Kane-Scheifele-MacLean cause I think that'll look REALLY sick, I kinda think MacLean could be this years Grabner, or even the Calder Trophy winner, Phoenix just didn't really treat him right, if they did he might of had 30-50 points for them last year, I'm kinda thinking Phoenix sucks at developing prospects now.

Time to make a post about Phoenix being completely ignorant, not knowing how to develop prospects, and how they are going to fold because they lost Maclean in the waiver process.

Pretty sure Phoenix would have first crack at him.

No, that's a popular misunderstanding that's oft repeated on HFB.

The only special right Phoenix has is if Mac is waived again in the future and Phoenix claims him, then if they are the only team that submitted a claim he can be sent straight to the AHL without further waivers required.

Normally when teams waive prospects it's usually because they aren't ready to contribute to a winning team. This might be the case with MacLean. But why would you give a roster spot to Patrick O'Sullivan and why would a franchise that needs money like Phoenix give a dime a dozen enforcer a rather lucrative contract? Perhaps none of these things are related but POS has not been good enough for enough NHL teams by now, the inevitable outcome is that 15 games into the season Patrick will have a statline resembling 1 0 1 -5 or something like that and will get waived.

Grabner version 2.0? Jets need the offense.

I doubt MacLean will ever have a season as good as POS had 3 years ago.

+ O'Sullivan deserves more a roster spot than MaCLean at this point. if you sent POS to the AHL after the training camp he had do you think its going to be easy to attract players on 2 way contracts if you send them to the AHL anyway after a superb training camp. I think the initial plan was to give MacLean a real shot this year but he had a very bad training camp and POS a really good one.
On paper it doesnt make sence but if you keep MacLean instead of POs on the team what kind of message it sends to the dressing room to the players?

We just signed Hanzal to a five year contract kicking in after this season, I would hardly say that after losing Maclean to the new jets that Phoenix is falling fast. I would also mention one of the best defenceman in the NHL also signed a new long term deal in Yandle! Maclean was terriable in camp. Play hard and then get rewarded, isn't that how it should be ?

I'll give you most of the guys you mentioned, but Latendresse is a legit player/ scoring threat in the NHL. Sure, he was hurt most of last year, but he doesn't deserve to be mentioned with the other guys you named there. Dude scored 25 goals the year before getting hurt.

You are right. The Coyotes were put in a very difficult situation. I just hope that a dozen games of POS on the 3rd and then 4th line will be worth it

Grats to Winnipeg. I really like Mac's game. He gets to the net consistently. Not saying he's a banger but he knows how to get in a good spot to score. We have a roster full of bottom six players which keeps Tippett from having to use his Viagra for the whole season. Unfortunately Mac doesn't fit into that mold. Only thing left for us to do to complete this offseason is to trade Turris for a bag of pucks. God forbid we have someone on the roster with potential to score more than 20 goals.

According to Hockey's Future, MacLean is a 7.5 C prospect, which ties him for top prospect in our organization

Can't blame the Jets for picking him up, as there is potential upside.

Can't blame the Coyotes for letting him go (although I'm sure they'd have rather kept him).

The thing is: He's had three years to show he can compete CONSISTANTLY at the NHL level and has not offered up any proof. I've sat and watched this guy at camp year after year and have never seen enough from him. Consider that I not only don't see him as often as the Yotes brass does, nor am I (or any of us) privy to what his attitude is.

I wish Brett all the best but it's quite possible the kid will make a great career AHL player that can never elevate his game to the NHL.

You just can't afford, as a team with a self-imposed (league-imposed) cap and limited resources, to give up on a young player who has shown at every stage that he is developing well and being patient with the organization's demands because he had a bad 3 weeks, and give the roster spot to an older player who was slightly better than the prospect, but with the caveat that the older player has already reached his ceiling. It's just bad business.
Shaky ownership? There's no ownership. The direction Don Maloney and Dave Tippett have taken the last two years is very consistent. Winning. As far as their identity in the future, who cares. Their only future at this point is this season.

People better not be surprised if he has a break out year. Its quiet expected tbh.

I have been following him a bit (stats wise) and never realized how he didnt jump right to the NHL. He consistently put up numbers in every league.

Not sure if he has changed since Oshawa, but he had a nose for the net....very intelligent player and used his size effectively.
I'll be surprised if he gets 10 goals this season, and even more surprised if he is not sent back to the AHL at some point. As for his stats I'm sure he'd pile up a bunch in NHL 2011 or another Video game. His video coaches will probably be pulling out their hair though.

Quite possibly the strangest post I've seen. Or is this bumped from 1990?
