Lapierre did that for years as a Hab... At least Komisarek will drop his gloves the odd time... And don't get me wrong, I dislike Komisarek as much as the next guy.... But if you think taunting doesn't go on all the time you're delusional.

Habs were once again physically dominated by a division rival, and were lead by an imcompetent coach who took another too many Men on the ice penalty. I'm sure Jack Ears leads the league in that category, picking up where he left off against Boston. Small Habs with no response, physically intimidated, essentially quit playing hard with a solid dose of poor coaching to add to the mix. Rotten start, they need size and top/bottom 6 toughness ASAP.

I was at the game.
In the 1st period, the Habs were the physical team and the Leafs looked soft.
It all turned on the powerplay gone wrong.
It made absolutely no sense to have a forward on the point when Webber is there with his shot.

agreed, lapierre was the worst with his stupid grin, and would never drop the mitts, also subban is pretty bad for it, like you said komisarek will drop the gloves and doing it with lucic a couple times is pretty admirable.

Desharnais?

Of all players, you are singling him out? I thought he was one of our best players.

The first period was decent but even then we didn't create any too good opportunities.

After the 1st we played really sloppy, it was embarrassing to watch.

Price played decently.

Emelin in instead of either Campoli or Diaz.

Just a case of not finishing chances when out chancing and out shoooting the opposition, c'mon everybody 14-4 we outshot them with 2 goal posts. It could have easily been 2-0 for us, the guys looked a little out of sync especially Cole and Pacioretty, these guys will get it, it's just one game, it will get better. It might be a consequence of playing so many rookies in the preseason, these guys will click they just need time.

Komi tried to avoid it for as long as he could actually, he was kinda forced into fighting Lucic...

as for tonight, I'm no surprised he acted the way he did, after all Moen is more or less his size

One game played, one loss, and let's get rid of everyone ? Get real.As for Emelin, his pre-season performance was dissapointing- AHL quality at best.

It was better than half the guys in the lineup. Diaz was garbage up until the last pre-season game, and even then he was dominated physically and shouldn't have been in the lineup ahead of Emelin. Hopefully Emelin gets to play with Gorges.

Gill-Subban
Emelin-Gorges
Spacek-Diaz

Playing with Gorges should help Emelin adapt a lot quicker since he'll likely get a large chunk of minutes. Knowing Martin we're likely going to see Emelin-Diaz as a pairing getting 9 minutes a game while Gill is forced into playing 25+.

The HF drama queens are out in full force, I see.

It was a sloppy game like most early October games are, but we still dominated the play for most of the game. Hit a few posts, missed a few open nets, and Reimer was solid. Not much you can do.

His pedigree suggests he's a world class player, and one can only hope that he proves that at the Nhl level. However, based on his underwhelming exhibition play,he does not deserve to be any higher on the depth chart.

tough loss ... Game 1 or not. That was a Divisional game and we can't leave too many of those points on the table.

That out of the way, the TML need a good start and there was a lot of pressure on them. They rose to the occasion this time and got the win in the spot light. Grabovsky looks pretty darn good too .

On our side, we need to bury our chances when we get them, go to the net harder... our guys spent too much time on the perimeter.

Habs man of the match was Diaz for me...

Leaf fan coming in peace.

Many of you are saying you had an excellent first period, and that is true to an extent. But if you go back and look at the game footage, the leafs just weren''t skating. All our lines were messed up and running into each other for the better part of 20 minutes. Frattin doen not fit on that second line and Grabs and Kuli missed Mac for sure.

I thought Price was amazing again tonight and you can take solace in the fact you have one of the top goalies in the league. I also really like Gionta's game.

In leaf land, we would boo Gomez off the ice. He is a tool for sure and soft.

I think Max will come around with a little confidence,

I agree with most of you about Diaz. He is not NHL ready.

As for the general size of the team, your GM is at fault there. I thought our D did a great job at throwing the habs around at will.

But in Subban you have a gem and a player to build around. He is slick and gets under the opponents skin. He has an offensive flair that will get him 40 plus points this year.

In leafland, we are all pretty happy with our big, young fast team. But you gotta hang in there.....the jets are there for the taking on Sunday.

They played so bad after the first they made komisarek look competent which is sad, because he looked like the same sack of **** in the first period as always. Then he went into his schtick of trying to beat on guys 6" smaller than him and wouldnt push moen around after the whistle not because moen is the best fighter but because he is the same size. What a *****.

naturally many of us, including me who dislike management team ottawa 2.0 will use this as pretext to criticize or as many of you say 'panic'. i agree it's not time to freak but there are recurrent patterns....

-first off, a carry on from a crap preseason playing a mediocre team missing three top 6 forwards.
-eric cole playing on the 3rd line with an over matched desharnais and 35 yo career journeyman and playing all of 60 secs of pp time over 5 opportunities
-spacek on this team....and playing instead of sitting. nothing new for spacek. falls down when he gets breathed on...over matched, allergic to contact etc...by far the habs most useless dman...
-another dman on the 4th line...a pp specialist who didn't get any pp time. what's the point jack?
-just overall, a choppy uninspired game
-the 4th line better become betts/white/moen because this team desperately needs size and energy

Most definitively not how I had hoped the season would start, especially being shutout that really stings. Let's hope they get their act together. I continue to not be a fan of Martin but he is the coach for now and I have to live with it I guess.
