I’ve had such extensive surgeries, they say it takes a couple of years after that serious of surgery to actually feel back to yourself. DP can't go anywhere till this summer anyway, so if he's "healthy" expect to see him. The amnesty buyouts are for summer 2013 or summer 2014.

It would have been really funny if DP insisted on staying in Germany and not reporting to the Islanders.

Maybe his half-german grandparents have a small house in a nice town, brew their own organic beer, maybe there's a nearby pub and a men's league - strong emotional ties worth more than 2021 and a zillion dollars.

I recently saw an interview DP did for some type of German talk show on youtube, he was already sporting the pony tail. Looks pretty ridiculous.

I can't help but notice his face as well, it still looks completely broken. Compare pictures of him from 2004 to now. He looks like a celebrity who's gone through multiple terrible plastic surgeries.

Watch him come out and get Comeback player of the year.

Then we won't amnesty him at all.

Then he'll break his hip and we'll be stuck with him forever!

Would this scenario really surprise any of us when it comes to Rick?

You forgot this part:

Watch him come out and get Comeback player of the year.

Then Wang gives him an additional six years on his current contract.

Then we won't amnesty him at all.

Then he'll break his hip and we'll be stuck with him forever!

It's always something with him and his desperate attempts to be recognized as cool or different...

How many numbers has he had with the Isles? Different color pads? The Pink pads when he was clearly an ECHL-caliber goalie...

Just concentrate on stopping the friggin puck. That's it.

I actually feel insulted when he spouts nonsense like this. Just go away Rick.

I get why everyone is so mad about his whole situation, but I really do genuinely bad for him at this point. All he wants to do is play the game he grew up with, he's not doing anything to harm the Isles. I do believe it his time to retire but I can feel the guy's pain as well.

This.

He's been very unfortunate, and as a result the franchise has as well, but it's not like he's got brittle bones intentionally. If it were up to him, he'd have been on the ice all these years, and he'd continue to be in the crease for years to come.

I like the Rick and feel bad from his as well.

i really believe he did hurt us last season, through no fault of his own.
Montoya was riding a hot streak, then he was forced to sit for 2 weeks while the rick and Nabby got games. that basically killed our momentum and montoya's career as an islander. he was injured shortly after.

this was the folly of our braintrust and puppet coach, Ted Nolan would have never went for that rediculous three goalie rotation and thats why he got not so great teams into the playoffs.

this season we cant afford to "Experiment" with 3 goalies, i say if the Rick doesnt win the back up job legit, then he should go down to the bridge or retire.

i dont believe they will ever buy him out

DP I love you, but Charles Wang needs to buy you out so our future isn't destroyed. However, I am VERY concerned that Wang will not do this.

I'd say that taking up a roster spot, even as a healthy scratch is hurting the Islanders.

If there was no such thing as a cap floor...

would Wang have bought out DP's contract ages ago?

why did we have to give that whacky contract to rickety??? if we did any whacky deals, id rather have saved the crazy 15 yr deal 4 Tavares, and thats even pushing it a little.

the rick was overrated from day 1, i always had high hopes , but i knew deep down i was lying to myself. i saw a goaltender that was slightly above average overallj , with great stick handling skills(even though it seemed as if he was incessantly playing the puck at the wrong time.), and great athleticism. he was able to steal a few games here and there, but thats about it. if rick never got injured, and played from 08-12, do you think this team ends up higher in the standings? maybe, but some of those teams were so awful, that rick may have ended up stealing games for us, but it doesnt make us a playoff team.

i feel bad for the guy because he cares about this team, and has had horrible luck and tried--with no avail--to stay healthy. i feel a big problem with this organizations that they dont want to hurt any feelings. "well rick is a great guy, lets lock him up for a long time" "oh garth i like you a lot.....wanna be GM??" stuff like that.

I can't see the Islanders doing this. Although Bryz has less money coming to him for the remander of the contract then Dipietro, the next couple years are part of the front loaded portion of his deal which means the Islanders would have to shell out big bucks

Thats doesnt make any sense. given the Ricks history and the fact that he's been injured already this season (in germany) thats just plain stupid

yes and no. A rushed camp or have Poulin/Nilsson play games in the AHL? Id rather have them play as much as possible then come up and back up. Rick wont play...actually ill be he doesnt get through camp without some sort of groin "tweak"

Folks, I think we need be prepared to see Rick play at least a few games this season. As of right now, he's "healthy". How long that will last remains to be seen. With Poulin and Nilsson splitting time at Bridgeport, I think it's pretty obvious that we can pencil in Rick as Nabby's back-up. That is, at least until the inevitable injury happens and they call one of the AHL guys up.
