Goalie future

Hey isles fans,

Just curious, will snow buy out Dipietro?

How is your goaltending future? Nabby going to stay after this season?

We've got Kevin Poulin and Anders Nilsson waiting in the wings. Most of us believe it will be a competition between the two of them for the job in the future.

As for DP, its anyone's guess if the organization will make the right move and use the amnesty clause.

No.

Nilsson will probably end up being the #1 goalie.

Doubtful.

I really feel like there is an obvious major clue that the Islanders are NOT going to buy out DP. Here's why: Considering the history, odds are good that he get's hurt this year. Sorry, just sayin. And if he is, he can't be bought out. That is why Scott Gomez is being held out so they don't risk his injury before his summer buy out. IF they were going to buy him out then he would probably not play him. I think I'm on to something.

Before his first major season loss, where he was out all year for the first time, he led the NHL in giveaways. Not all goalies in the NHL.....he led the NHL!.

And that quote posted by Bones....DP probably read one of my old posts when 99% of the internet was pro DP. But hey.....what do I know?

Since this is becoming a little bit of a blooper reel, I'm amazed no one threw this one out:

Anyone who has a name which is grammatically incorrect, already has zero credit in my book. It's another reason to hate the MapleLEAFS, as well.

With this new Gomez/redden buyout rule, why wouldn't we buy out dipietro?

Ok,let me rephrase: from a hockey perspective, why wouldn't the isles buy out Dipietro?

you can't buy out a player who is injured. DP is miraculously not hurt right now. He will likely get hurt this year at some point and if its bad Isles can't buy him out. I know we need him for the cap floor this year but if we buy him out today he will still be on the cap for this year. I know Isles never spend to the cap but we might want to some time in the next 10 years so buy him out now and be done with it. Isles have a young team with a bright future and don't need the albatross contract prohibiting them from making moves in 2016.
There's huge risk even if it was a player who is 100% healthy. A freak accident. Anything. And we pay him for 10 more years and against the cap that could cost us a top free agent in the future. This is a one time get out of jail free card. To make his contract disappear forever. Teams with money wouldn't think twice about it but Wang will never pay rick for the next 18 years for him not to play.

Lets look at it from a hockey perspective only, and tell me if there is any reason not to do this.

Or am I missing something?

You're right on, except one thing. You seem to be forgetting we are not a normal NHL hockey team. We are the Islandersowned by Chuck Wang, who cares nothing about winning.

From a hockey perspective only there is no reason in the world not to buy out DP, unfortunately "Hockey perspective" is the furthest thing from Wangs mind
