Kings listed as a Stanley Cup favorite?

The Kings are getting some props from the media up here in Canada:

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=377424

One of the four predicted the Kings would win the cup. Another predicted the Sharks, but not everyone is a genius

Also on The Score ticker, they made some predictions, one being the Stanley Cup final. Their prediction was we'd lose in the finals to the Washington Capitals. I can't find a link for that on their website, so maybe someone else will have better luck than I.

That Caps over Kings prediction is duplicated here:

http://awinninghabit.com/2011/09/24/...ey-cup-winner/

Seems we have a bigger and bigger bandwagon by the day. Thoughts?

Btw, Vegas has us at 12/1 to win the cup, tied for 6th.

EDIT: The Score also said Terry Murray would win coach of the year. Just thought you'd all appreciate that

We have been talked about being favorites in Canada on several shows this past summer.

The Capitals vs. the Kings in the finals? Talk about the ultimate showdown of offense vs defense... It would also be great entertainment for the facial expressions of Boudreau and Murray alone.

Not to reach the cup we haven't. I think this is a bit of fallout from the Drew Doughty signing actually.

I got 15-1 at the Stations. I'll take it. Winning the cup would be win enough, but I'll take the $750 as well.

I think all this is just based on paper. Which is useless in hockey.

I've always felt that in ice hockey, more than any other major team sport, teamwork is a huge factor. Although our core is the same, there were major changes and different personalities/types of players are in that room now.

It will be interesting to see if the team can gel. I know it's far too early but so far right now, I am not seeing it. My prediction is we won't really see it until a few months into the season. We may win games and do fine, but I'm talking about a real cohesive unit that is high playoff finish caliber.

I have heard us called legitimate contenders all summer long where I live, I think it is the same thing, no?

Agree. Most hockey analyst's upgraded the Kings to serious contenders when Richards came over (and they're right). I think they knew Doughty would get signed, so that was a part of the equation. But why they are in serious Cup contender status, will be for all the parts in place you need for a Cup run. Legit goaltending, two A class defenders and two A class centers. WIth Richards, they got that last center piece.

Just by what he'll do for Kopi, in that if Murray uses him right, he'll let Richie play against the top lines so Kopi doesn't have that pressure. That will open up the ice considerably for Kopi over last year, when often he had to play against the top lines . When you figure that he was a Point pe rgame player last year against top competition, this year he'll go way north of 90 points if he stays healthy (and if Richie stays heathy. He hasn't missed too many games. 1 last year due to flu and three in 09 due to flu)

I was a bit disappointed that Murray didn't let Gagne, Brown and Richie play together more in the preseason. Two games isn't enough to get the rhythm. But knowing how sterling a center Richie is, I feel confident they'll be fine. Richie's best years as a pro were under the same 2 coaches and this system, with Gagne and he put up 155 points in two years. So I think he's good for about 80 points.

Oh and he hates the Rangers...and esp. has bad blood (and 6 fights) with Dubinsky . He also has more goals , 12 I think, and shorties against the Rangers than any other team.

The longest summer is almost over, Friday can't get here soon enough. I took off work and am looking forward to hollering 'SCORE" at the tv at least 4 times (I feel the Kings win 4-1)

Go Kings

You in Manitoba too right?

The only reference I heard of us as a cup contender this summer was some hack saying we'd play Philly in the cup final. That was a few days after we did the Richards/Simmonds deal though, so I assumed he was knee-jerk in his reaction, or just looking for a headline.

Kings are gonna have a slow start. It will be interesting to see how fast people jettison them from the power rankings.

Well NewFoundland so, no.

And an outer Islander to boot.

Maybe we get a bit different coverage or maybe I am hearing what I want to hear, either or both are also possible.

Nice. My wife's from Cape Breton, I love the east coast. Maybe they are more pro-Kings than out here. Granted all I hear about is the Oilers, Flames and Nucks, so I can see why they would be a bit harsher on the Kings this way.

Anyone who looks at the Kings roster and sees anything other than a top-5 team in the NHL is mistaken.

Too bad we should expect half our wingers, one of our centers, and at least either a defenseman or a goalie to get injured.

Especially from two guys who played in the league just last season. That's telling! ( or so I hope)
