The good:
Legwand, particularly on the PK
Smith
CalO

The great:
Pekka
Weber Suter

The decent:
Most everyone else

The ugly:
Hillen/Laakso pair
It's hard to judge Laakso too harshly b/c Hillen looked so bad but one of these two will be watching tomorrow night. Ek will surely get a chance. Which side does he play?

Plenty to work on but some stuff to like. It was very refreshing to see this group. They showed glimmers of the old rushing waves of forecheck that Trotz teams of old employeed with their speed. I think Trotz is right, we had slowed down over the last couple of years.

I agree to some point but I think Smithson could be the odd man out when Fisher is back. Fisher does everything Smithson does but obviously much better on the offensive side of things. That coupled with the lines we iced tonight and I'd be a very happy camper.

And he is the golden boy, or the guy with the goat pictures. It's nice to have the depth but O'Reilly looked good. Spaling is solid. Smith looked like he belonged. Legwand is Legwand. Who do you cut or send down? It's a nice problem to have to be honest but someone has to go when Fisher is back. Geoffrion seems like the logical choice but a line of him, Fisher and Hornqvist could be a nice combo. Gritty, feisty and hard to play against. It's going to be a tough call. Funny thing, where does Bergfors fit in all of this, if he does at all? Hard to sit someone who's average 40 points a season for the last 2 years when you're an offensively challenged team.

Congrats to Brofist with the W on his inaugural GDT!

On another note, how big a bunch of homers are the c-bus media?? They give two of the three stars to the losing team?? No Suter? (At least that's what espn had)

I have to get this off my chest:

1) Atkinson is good. Offensively. Rough night for that line on the defensive end.

2) Rick Nash. Takes a lot of abuse. Dishes out a lot of abuse. Falls like a sack of bricks at the lightest touch. I'm not going to debate the penalties that he drew. They were all pretty obvious. I'm just pointing out that the guy oversold them way way too hard. Frustrating to see. Is this a trend BJ fans or just me reading too much into tonight? Again - penalties were legit, but looked like a bit of exaggeration on his part to sell the call.

3) Rinne was really really good.

4) Suter/Weber .... Honestly, what are we going to do without them? Poile has got to get this done.

Yea it really is a great problem to have and it is really goin to show after the first injury or so. Basically what we're seeing in the current lineup. I just see Fisher taking Spalings spot centering SK74 and Erat. No knock on Spaling but he really is a bottom six player, albeit a great one, and should probably be moved back. I keep forgetting about Bergfors, thats just another piece to this giant puzzle scrambling to find his place. Who the hell knows what our lines/lineup will be by decemeber, could be anything

I was just watching on TV at home... (until the Preds scored their third, then I channel surfed a bit)

The "tripping" call that Nash drew early in the game, it really wasn't much of a trip, but the stick was in his skates and he was REALLY leaning into the turn. I guess what I'm saying is that it wouldn't have taken much sideways force to take him down for that one.

I didn't see any others that looked exaggerated (keep in mind the channel surfing).

Concerning the CBJ 2nd line, I agree - Umberger, Vermette, Atkinson had a bit of a rough night.

I see positive things for the CBJ in this game. The Preds looked good (from my perspective) very defensively aware.

Can we just make a pact to be 1 and 2 in the Central this season?

Fair enough. The Jacket's top line is beastly. Carter is a dynamic addition.

Yeah I thought the same thing when I saw the trip on Halischuk. His stick was in the wrong place, but Nash just went down like he was hit with sniper fire. Halischuk didn't really whine about it though, so that was good on him, but I thought it was pretty weak, especially for a player who can go so strong to the net, build the wall, etc, when he thinks he can score.

But when it's entering the zone, bam, down like a sack of potatoes.

Yeah although I have to admit it did feel a little strange to be pulling for a different team after all these years. Oh well the first game is now in the books.

Carter was far and away the best player in a Blue Jackets uni.

Halishuk played great. I said last year he was a faster, smarter, Joel Ward replacement. I don't think many will replicate Ward's monumental playoff run for us, but his board work and tenacity - MH already emulates. Plus he can skate.

Spaling, honestly, has a lot of Mike Fisher in him. He is going to be a tweener over the life of his career. I think he has the potential to be a 20 goal guy, but he is never going to score a lot of points.

When healthy, we may be rolling four lines. Four. Lines.

I was in Murfreesboro earlier and the game WAS indeed on 102.5, My sister also said she was driving back to N'ville from Atlanta and was able to pick up the broadcast as soon as she got on this side of Monteagle.

As I was driving home from work I heard the pregame stuff and the station would go in and out--not static, just dead air--but then it was fine. I was home by the time the game was on. Were you getting dead air or something else on the radio besides the game?

I am guessing (hoping) it was just a glitch.

Not to be negative nelly, but man, that Hillen/Laakso pairing stunk. Also, did Hornqvist even play?

He set a franchise record by winning 24 of 31 draws. Thats...wow. It seemed like that line dominated puck possession in our end, and a lot of that had to do with their complete face-off domination.
