Fuelled By Passion: The Return Of The Jets Documentary

FRANTIC Films’ Fuelled By Passion: The Return Of The Jets will air Friday night at 8 p.m. cst and Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. cst on CBC TV. The documentary follows the loss of the Jets in 1996 and their return 15 years later and includes interviews with current owner Mark Chipman, former owner Barry Shenkarow, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and several players.

I had the chance to meet with the team behind this project, including Charles Officer (Director of the documentary) and Lynne Skromeda (President of Production at Frantic Films) on several occasions and I am really looking forward to finally seeing the finished product.

Lynne took some time to answer some questions about this project, in this IC exclusive Q & A:

IC: How did Frantic get involved in this project?

LS: As soon as we heard the Jets might be coming back, we knew it would be a great story to tell. Prior to the actual announcement that the NHL would be returning, CBC had reached out to us about a potential collaboration. And shortly after the announcement was made our CEO & Executive Producer , Jamie Brown, contacted Mark Chipman, who he knew through a number of various Manitoba business initiatives, to see if he’d be interested in participating, which he was. We knew this was more than just a local story and the CBC was very excited to do a new kind of sports documentary. On July 20 we had a meeting at the True North offices with CBC, our director, Charles Officer, and the True North team and off we went from there!

Read the rest of the Q & A after the jump.

Would you (or anyone for that matter) happen to know if this would being coming out on disc or something?
Like the Q&A said, we only have little clips of one hour interviews.
Wouldn't mind seeing an "uncut" type of thing with everything in it.
Probably could be an 8 hour program.

I've been told that what is shown tonight is the only released version that will be produced.

Not to be the negative guy, but based on the cost of making DVDs, I would say it would be REALLY tough to recoup their costs, never mind make money.

DVD - Average Wholesale Price = $16

Marketing - $2.75
Duplication - $1.00
Packaging - $0.90
Distribution - $0.80

Total - $5.45

Gross Profit per Unit = $10.55

(All costs are averaged)

So... The cost of making a DVD? How would one even come to the conclusion that it would be expensive?

Is that on a scale of theatrical releases? I can see those numbers for the latest box office movie releasing on DVD (Transformers for example) but something that would have a small print run would increase those averages quite a bit I would think.

I don't want to be negative about it but I tend to agree with Noeller. Honestly, other than our regional coverage market, there isn't much of a market for this as a commercial release. I'll say Canada only and that's pushing the envelope...

It blows my mind over and over again. When I got that ticket from you during lunch I went back and sat at my desk and stared at it for a good 10 minutes haha.
