whether we like it or not he is our best all around center right now
with Belanger around he wont be taking all the face off this year and wont get as worn down
RNH needs to learn and Gagner is still developing on the dot
If we keep Horcoff because he is our all around best center, does it really matter what else Tambo does? This team is destined to fail with such a player as your go to guy up the middle. Fact of life...

in the last thread the offer was Horcoff for Komiserik
No thanks. Gags the best player in this deal by far, and has the highest ceiling. Aulie is OK at best. Bozak would be way down on the depth chart at C, and a third is practically useless.
Does Komi have a NMC? If not, I'd do that deal and just bury him off need be
As stated before, like it or not Horcoff is our best center currently, down the road this is will change but currently its the status. How much of a slap in the face (to Horcoff and your current players) is it to trade your captain just to get a player your going to buy out or send to the minors as your suggesting?
Trading Horcoff just for anything right now is retarded. Do people remember how much value Penner had 3 years ago??? We would have been lucky to get a 3rd round pick. And a couple years later he got a pretty great return. We have no reason to trade him currently. We arent at the cap, and we arent going to land any organization needs right now if we do.
Lastly, Toronto has Lombardi (3.5), Connolly (4.75), Grabovski (2.9) and Bozak (1.5). How much sense at all does it make for them to trade for Horcoff at 5.5?
The common response of, yeah I'd trade Horcoff just to get him off the books is getting old.
We need to be doing the 2 for 1 trade not the other way around. No way we can trade a guy like Gagner and have him be the best player in the deal.
THIS! Honestly, I like guys like Marincin, Klefbom and Gernat better who are already in our system. Aulie's are easy to find in the draft, in later rounds too.
If we want depth players, we trade depth players to get them (Brule for Aulie sort of deal. Not saying Leafs would go for it, but it's an example)
If we trade Gagner, it's in a package for a gamebreaking player who will be a LONGTERM fix.
We need to forget any trade between the Leafs and the Oilers.
I'm with this.
Unless there is some terrific value coming back, there is no point.
They have some nice young D, but adding more young D to an already shaky D isn't a viable solution to 'shore up the D'.
The only type of trade I'd be ok with(and even then pretty much unsure) is:
Gagner + Chorney/Plante
for
Komisarek + 1st/2nd + McKegg
type thing. Where we get a top-4 D-man who can play heavy minutes and won't expose the kids. We get a draft pick in a deep draft. And get a C prospect who's pretty much NHL ready and in the OHL this season.
Apart from that, no interest in bringing in another young D to shore up a shallow D.
