I unfortunatly had to do a trip to Houston BC (Yes, look it up, it's far) from Vancouver over the weekend. I managed to see the last 2 periods of the game while I was in Fraser Lake (Look it up, it's almost as far) on my way back. Unfortunatly I didn't really have much in the way of internet access up there but I'll be rewatching some video and will have some input a bit later.

Goal#1 (Minn PP)
This goal happened just as the Minn PP was ending so the Canucks were short handed and the player was not yet out of the box. Unfortunatly I was unable to see the first period as I was traveling up North so I'm not sure if Alberts Roughing penalty was bad or not. If it was (Someone else can let us know) then I would give him a -. If not, I wouldn't here.

Goal#2 (Canucks PP)
I'd give PP + to Daniel as he scored, but I would also give a PP+ to Kesler infront of the net for causing the distraction. I wouldn't give Henrik a PP+ because he simply passed the puck to someone who got a fluke goal.

Goal#3 (Minn ES)
Ballard and H. Sedin both get a - here. Ballard lost him man for a moment behind the net which allowed an open pass to H. Sedin's man, who he left wide open in front of the net when he went back to take the man Ballard was already on.

Goal #4 (Canucks ES)
Bieksa, Malholtra, Ebbett and Hansen all get a +.
Bieksa caused Minn to turn over the puck in the defensive zone. He then passed it to Ebbett to take it out of the zone who then passed it over to Malholtra. Malholtra shoots the puck at the net an Hansen deflects it into the net.

Goal #5 (Canucks PP/OT)
Kesler, D. Sedin and Salo get PP+.
Kesler made the nice rush up the ice and backs Minn up. Drops to D. Sedin when he's across the blueline who passes over to Salo who walks in and blasts one past the goalie.

Total
D. Sedin: PP+2,
Kesler: PP+2
Ballard: -1
H. Sedin: -1
Bieksa: +1
Ebbett: +1
Malholtra: +1
Hansen: +1
Salo: PP+1

Sorry for being late on this one guys, but I had to head up to Smithers/Houston BC for work on the weekend and being able to use the internet wasn't really in the cards until late last night. I barely managed to watch the last 2 periods.

Hopefully we can have some more input before tonights game. We'll make the end of discussion for this game at puck drop for tonights game if anyone else wants to voice their views.

I agree. Justa solid goal. Alberts hit him a bit high but it was a borderline call in my opinion. I think Alberts has the green light to throw those hits.

I originally thought it was Bieksa's man but I watched it again and you're right. Henrik had him, and left him because he thought Ballard lost his check.

I'd still give a big - to Bieksa, in addition to Hank and Ballard. Doesn't matter whether it was his man per se, but he was still in a very good position to take the stick away, which he didn't. Soft and casual play that led to a goal.

---

Against Oilers, on the first goal I'll give -2 Malhotra. First he made a horrible pass that started the Oilers' pressure that eventually led to the goal, and then he was standing around doing nothing on the actual goal when his man was open in the slot. Also - to Hodgson for very soft play along the wall. Luongo could've had that one also.

Oilers' second goal was just a retarded play by Luongo. Hamhuis couldn't get the puck because Luongo decided to play the puck with his glove. He put Hamhuis in an awful position and then lost the puck when it was passed to middle. Won't give other minuses in this one.

In the Oilers' third goal, - to Ballard with a very bad read and gap control (surprise). Also - to Edler and Burrows who both went for same guy and didn't do anything to him, but only taking themselves out of the play. Also giving - to Daniel because he could've supported a lot better when he saw Edler going for the puck carrier. Luongo went to his knees on the RNH pass and was out of the play after that, that's a big goalie -.

On Canucks' goals, Hodgson with a big + in the first. Started the play and finished it. Malhotra played his scoring chance pretty badly, but didn't give up on the play and passed to Edler at the point. Nice pass by Edler and screen by Hansen as well, not sure if those 3 reward a + though. Probably not.

Second goal was a nice one. Whole 5 man unit contributed in it. Beautiful goal. + to everyone I guess?

2nd Period
01:53 EDM Jordan Eberle (1) Snap - ASST: T. Hall (5) AND C. Potter (3)
-1 Alberts, -1 Hodgson
Malhotra was next to Eberle, but he was in the winger postion. His man was out at the point. Alberts should have been up near his guy. Hodgson made a weak play on the half wall. Was just beat.

05:58 EDM Shawn Horcoff (1) Wrist - ASST: R. Smyth (3)
Luongo -1
Stupid play by Luongo. He put his defender in a bad position. Luckily it was only Smyth coming in or he could have drilled Hamhuis.

06:55 EDM Taylor Hall (2) Wrist - ASST: J. Eberle (6) AND R. Nugent-Hopkins (3)
Burrows-1, Edler-1
Both went for Hall, but didn't even take him properly. It was a 3 on 3, which turned into a goal. Awful coverage. It's plays like this which makes me think the coaching staff is trying something new, and the players don't quite have a grasp of it yet. That was one of the biggest cluster***** I've seen all year. Awful.

11:29 VAN Cody Hodgson (2) Wrist - ASST: A. Edler (6) AND M. Malhotra (3)
Malhotra +1, Edler+1, Hodgson+1
Manny for the work behind the net, Edler for the slick pass, and Cody for the finish
3rd Period
07:43 VAN Alexandre Burrows (3) Wrist - ASST: H. Sedin (8) AND S. Salo (4)
Burrows+1, H Sedin +1, Daniel Sedin+1
Great play to stay onside, Nice finish by Burr. Hank made a nice pass, Daniel drew two defenders before passing to Salo.

The whole play started because Malholtra turned the puck over at our blue line on what should have been a fairly easy clear.

I can live with all of these but I'd be willing to give Salo a + as he was the one who blasted it from the point and caused the rebound right to H. Sedin.

The replay that I was watching doesn't show this far back, but if that is the case then I would agree.

I do have the game PVR'd, but I won't be able to rewatch this play until tonights game is over.

I agree with Potato. Manny has to get a -1 on the first goal and Salo with a +1 on the second Canucks goal.

Either way, when the puck came across, Malhotra was just standing around puck watching. Poor work there that i'd say warrants a minus anyway. And i'd even think about giving one to Hansen who gave a rather poor effort on the wall as well. As the winger there, looked like he was going to give Hodgson some additional support over the top, but pulled up and just waved his stick at the play instead.

I'd say that whole forward line gets a minus on that one.

Going by the 1st column, Ballard is only a -1 at even strength?

Just wanted to say that this is very neat experiment and looks to be so far a very handy tool, thank you for the people that are dedicated to doing this - so people like myself don't have to lol

Goal 1(Vancouver ES)
Nice stretch pass by Bieksa to I think Weise who deflects it into the zone where Lapierre was skating at full speed to track it down. Bit of a fluke goal, but we'll take it.
Bieksa, Weise, Lapierre = +1

Goal 2(Wash ES)
Backstrom passes it over to Ovechkin who is covered by Hansen. Hansen fails to tie up Ovechkins stick and allows Ovechkin to bat it in. Nice play by Ovechkin, but Hansen has to have a better effort at stopping Ovechkin.
Hansen = -1

Goal 3(Van PP)
Hamhuis and Booth do a nice job at keeping the puck in and Higgins gets in front of the net with the puck and gets his own rebound and shoots it in.
Hamhuis, Booth and Higgins = PP+1

Goal 4(Van PP)
H. Sedin wins the faceoff, puck goes back to Edler, he passes it over to Salo who makes a nice pass back so Edler can wide up for the one timer.
H. Sedin, Salo and Edler = PP+1
*Note* At first I thought one of our players was screening the goalie, but now that I've seen the replay I think it was one of their own players and not Kesler.

Goal 5(Wash PP)
This was a really nice shot by Ovechkin, one that I'm not going to blame Luongo on. I didn't like the way Kesler just let his man go and then didn't get back into position to cover Ovechkin. Burrows tried to get over, but didn't make it as he was leaving his man.
Kesler = PK-1
Note: I can't remember who took the penalty here, so I'm not sure if a -1 needs to be given there.

Goal 6(Wash Penalty Shot)
Luongo almost had it. Unfortunately this is one where I didn't see the initial penalty, but according to the boxsheet it was on Edler for tripping on the breakaway which leads me to believe he allowed a guy to get behind him. Tentatively I'm going to give Edler a -1 ES, but feel free to correct me.
Edler = -1

Goal 7(Van ES)
Nice work by Burrows and the Sedins to regain control of the puck and make a nice pass into Edler who picked the perfect time to jump up.
Edler, H. Sedin, D. Sedin, Burrows = +1

Goal 8(Wash ES)
Really bad change by Vancouver. I'm not sure if it's entirely Ballards fault as it looks as though he went for the chance and was almost on the bench and nobody was coming off and then he didn't make it back in time.
Ballard = -1

Goal 9(Van ES)
Kesler does a good job to dig the puck out in front of the net with 2 Wash players standing there and knocks it over to Henrik for the open net.
Kesler, H. Sedin = +1

Goal 10(Van ES)
Higgins and Hansen do a good jump a working the puck up the boards and Hansen skates like he's going wide of the net and then passes it out front to Hansen who knocks it in.
Higgins and Hansen = +1

Goal 11(Van ES)
Bieksa makes a nice pass along the boards to Lapierre who is moving in on a 2 vs 1 with Higgins. Lapierre makes a nice move to get to the front of the net and scores.
Bieksa, Higgins and Lapierre = +1

ES:
H. Sedin, Bieksa, Higgins, Lapierre =+2
Weise, D. Sedin, Burrows, Kesler =+1
Ballard = -1

PP:
Hamhuis, Booth, Higgins, H. Sedin, Salo and Edler= PP+1

PK:
Kesler -1

On Ovie's 2nd goal wasn't that Ballard who wandered over to the corner leaving #8 wide open for the one-timer?

I don't think he wandered off. Ovi was Kesler's man and Ballard went to take the guy with the puck

1-0 - Lapierre +1
Hard to give anyone else a plus on this goal considering it was such a bad goal.
1-1 - Hansen -1
Didn't quite tie Ovechkin's stick up. Fluky bounce off Luongo though.
2-1 - Higgins, Booth, Hamhuis +1 PP
Great drive to the net by Higgins, very good pinch by Hamhuis and good board work by Booth to get Higgins the puck.
3-1 - Edler, Salo +1 PP
Good puck movement by Edler and Salo to create the shooting lane. No screen just a rocket shot.
3-2 - Ballard, Kesler -1 PK
Ballard took the wrong passing lane away, approached Backstrom taking away the bad angle shot and cross crease pass (which Luongo and Bieksa should be aware of) instead of the passing lane to a very dangerous Ovechkin in a good shooting spot. Kesler didn't take that lane away either. That being said perfect shot by Ovie.
3-3 - Edler -1 (Penalty Shot)
After a solid shift Edler slipped and got caught up ice. Unfortunate but he gets a minus.
4-3 - Edler, H. Sedin +1
Great pass Hank and even better finish by Edler on this play.
4-4 - Ballard, Salo -1
Horrible change by Ballard, Salo let Johansson walk right in, didn't take away any ice. Perfect shot by Johansson though.
5-4 - H. Sedin, Kesler +1
Scramble play but good work by Kesler to poke the puck free so that Hank could pass into the open net.
6-4 - Higgins, Hansen +1
Great drive and pass by Hansen and solid finish by Higgins.
7-4 - Lapierre, Higgins +1
Higgins created the decoy and gave Lapierre the room to make his move to the front of the net.

I'm in a bad mood, so I'll focus on the negatives...

Wash goal #1:
Hansen -1
Positionally everybody was good. Just unfortunate. Hansen tied up the stick, but Ovechkin is too strong.

Wash goal #2:
-1 Ballard, Kesler -1
Kesler and Ballard are in position, but Kesler came down a little far which made Ballard hesitate. The weird thing was the Capitals had two guys in the mid slot. It prevented Burrows from dropping back to take away the slot but looked to confuse Bieksa. I hesitate to give a minus on this one as well.

Wash goal #3:
Edler -1.
Agreed

Wash goal #4:
Salo -1, Ballard -1
If a defenseman wants a change, he has to let his partners know. Salo just had to fire it at Hodgson's stick, and let him tip it deep. Ballard had to recognize it wasn't deep

What no Flames destruction analysis?
1-0 - Higgins, Hansen +1
Great pass to Higgins by Hansen to set up the break away.
2-0 - PP Burrows, Kesler +1
Bit of a scramble but hard work by both and great effort by Burrows to score from the seat of his pants.
3-0 - PP D. Sedin, H. Sedin, Edler +1
Good work by Edler to find Henrik who made a brilliant pass to Dan to create the goal.
4-0 - Hodgson, Lapierre +1
All Lapierre, great hustle and magnificent pass to give Hodgson a tap in.
5-0 Edler, Hodgson +1
Bit of a scramble play, Hodgson did good work to find Edler open at the point who shot it through the mass of bodies and bounced in of Bouwmeester.
5-1 - Edler, Salo -1
Edler fell which gave the Flames player the time to pass cross ice to Tanguay whose stick wasn't tied up by Salo.
