Top 5 Strongest defenceman in the NHL

The poll is base on the defenceman who has the most physical strength out of 10 players, you can select 5, therefore decide the top 5 in the NHL. The selections did not include players who i consider to be goon in the NHL.

Jovanovski isn't even the strongest defenseman on his own team. Ohlund certainly belongs on this list!

Let assume i place them guys in, that who should be taken out of the 10 selections? As far as Norstrom, Foote and Chelios, they are all great and nasty, but i am not sure they are as physical dominate as the 10 players on the lists. Again McLaren is arguable, although he would have been a good candidate.

I would rate Norstrom and Foote more physically dominant than some of those players on the list, like Jovanovski, Fisher, Gill, and McCabe.

I like the players as is on the list.......There will always be people who think others should be on it instead, but I like it overall

You know there's one d-man that alot of enforcers used to say was the strongest guy in the NHL.
so strong, in fact, many people refused to fight him... I couldn't believe my ears when i heard who it was, but a lot of nhlers apparently said so...

Vladimir Malahkov

Go figure!

Yeah, put Rob Ray on his ass with one punch. He mostly never fights, but when somebody pisses him off a bit too much, the result is (well, was in his days in Mtl anyway) always pretty amusing.

I thought we had something of that nature in Zednik too, but that was a one-timer, nothing comparable to Vlad.

I voted for Hatcher, Chara, Souray, Pronger, and Blake.

However, if given a better poll, I would have voted something more along the lines of:

Hatcher, Ohlund, Rathje, Souray, and Foote

Then again, if you want to talk strongest & nastiest,

Hatcher, Foote, Stevens, Pronger, and uhh.. let's go with... Rob Blake.

i wonder how the GMs would come up with for this q cause it'd be very different im sure

well im sure they'd all include the "usual suspects" like blake, stevens, pronger, foote, souray, hatcher, chelios, malakhov apparently, etc etc.. but i think its also quite dependent on what you define "strength" as.. i mean it could be taken to mean very different things by different people.. for example strength of character..

From that list, IMO:

1- Stevens
2- Pronger
3- Souray
4- Chara
5- Hatcher
6- Blake
7- Jovanovski
8- Gill
9- McCabe
10- Fischer

Foote would have been a better choice than Fischer IMO as he wouldn't do my top-10, all a matter of opinion of course as there's no clean cut here. They're all physically dominant and the difference may lie in the ability to use their strenght to punish the opponent, as well as effectiveness pound for pound.
